Everytime we took a taxi back to Baan Sukhumvit Inn, it led to frowns on our part and puzzlement for the driver. He simply could not figure out where this generic sounding inn was along the street. That was because the Inn was off the street, into a side lane and to be found in a cul-de-sac. And that is the charm of BSInn. A quiet place tucked between a hair salon and a home-like factory (?). We enjoyed our stay. The room and beds were better than comfortable, simply decorated but stylish enough. Breakfast was hearty. Kevin and Neem were helpful and friendly. Far from the madding crowd of Siam Square but still convenient enough because the Skytrain was just a hop away (well ok - more than a few hops). So, a whisper to my countrymen/women who don't need the cookie-cutter right-at-the-doorstep-of-a-shopping-mall type of hotel, check this place out. But ssh, spread the word selectively - not for buffet-breakfast travellers with kids accompanying.

“Decent value”

Baan Sukhumvit Inn

Nice rooms and bathrooms, but there was a bit of a funny damp smell coming from the aircon. A DVD player was provided in the room, with DVD's available from reception, which was a nice touch.

Owner was helpful although a bit odd, as though he liked to treat people like idiots.

Location is good, with easy access to the BTS, MRT and airport bus.

Restaurant was pricey. We found the hotel up the lane had a very good and very reasonable restaurant.

Good, surprisingly quiet location, nice rooms, friendly and helpful reception staff. Not much more to say, other than it pays to book early as it's very popular!

“This place is GREAT !”

Baan Sukhumvit Inn

THANK-YOU BAAN SUKHUMVIT !!! We stayed here for 9 nights after reading other people's reviews and had the best time. It is a great boutique hotel for those who don't like the impersonal giant chains.

The rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly cleaned each day. They had very comfortable firm beds, great air-con and value mini-bar with free water. The perfect location in a no-through road sub-soi off Sukhumvit Soi 20 - close to everything whilst feeling like you are away from the madness at the end of the day...when you want to sleep!

The inn is staffed 24 hrs. There is Kevin and his lovely Thai staff - always helpful - even before we got there by email. Then there was the daily freshly ground and brewed coffee and yummy breakfasts.

We arrived at 7am on the first day - and Kevin graciously offerred us the use of a room to rest in until our room was ready (it was still occupied by guests checking out that day) - and that was a fantastic start.

There is free wi-fi too along with a computer for guests to use. Will have to get a lap-top for next time - and there will be a next time!!!!! There are so many great choices nearby and transport is so easy (this was our first time to anywhere in Asia). The street food, restaurants, shopping malls, street markets, massage therapy shops, bars - the choices are endless from local to 5 star and all right between two skytrain stations.

We went to the street food stall outside the Lexus showroom for brunch everyday - best phad thai and the storeholder encouraged us to try new dishes each day - how can you go wrong with sign language and a bit of 'taxi thai' for $1AU a dish! Try the local gaffee tung (bag coffee with carnation milk and condensed) - I am a bit of a coffee snob and loved it - nice and strong! Don't let them give you Nescafe instant - they think you want this - point to the bag !

MY TIPS
Use a guide for at least a day from "Tour with Tong" - we had Jerry - he is great!
Go to "Suan Thip" - an award winning acerage riverside restaurant at Nonthaburi (3/4 hr from guesthouse @350 baht taxi ride and totally worth it - lunch was a gourmet experience under a private sala overlooking the river - we had MANY courses with personal waiters for $40AU!) I found this restaurant on the itinerary of a guided foodie tour...and ran with the idea.

If you are there in Bangkok for a while - head to the movies at the Emporium shopping mall and get a deluxe seat for @$8AU.

There is a little curry / rice shop opposite the Tamarind cafe in Soi 20 called Thong Lee next to Sabai Sabai massage. After discovery it we ate there every night for the last 3 nights (no more than 400 baht for 2 big eaters and a couple of Singah tallies for 75 baht each) and then doubled our bill by having desert / cocktails / coffee at the Tamarind cafe (very upmarket but equally 1st rate in taste)..

“Perfect!!!”

Baan Sukhumvit Inn

This place ticks all the right boxes . It's clean, welcoming, good value and in the right location.
There are cheaper alternatives but having a look around those I'm glad I chose this one. I even booked again for a couple of nights before my flight home.
