Our tour group stayed at Rim Doi last week for one night. The lodging was chosen simply because it was close to our work location so we didn't utilize the resort as a 'vacation' spot - just needed a place to sleep. However, I did enjoy my stay there.
The bungalows are absolutely gorgeous. The stairs, banisters, and balconies are done with original hardwoods which help the bungalows blend into the lush vegetation of the surrounding area. There was an emphasis on largeness...I felt like a dwarf going up the huge steps to the top floor. My room had an entire wall of large windows which overlooked the tropical trees below. The room was equipped with two twin beds, a refrigerator, television, air conditioner, and fan. The bathroom was one step down from the rest of the room and included an 'on demand' gas hot water heater. The shower was very refreshing after a long day of work. Note that if you are handicapped or otherwise unable to go up two flights of stairs, you'll want to reserve a room on the bottom floor. Even then, you may have trouble navigating steps inside the room or outside. Either way, I don't think this resort would be in any way accessible to a person in a wheelchair.
The grounds were lush and beautiful...I felt like I was in a tropical jungle. At the restaurant area is a balcony overlooking the lake where you can purchase bags of fish food for 10 baht. The fish certainly provide for some relaxation and entertainment as you feed them! Lots of gorgeous flowers abound along the walkways and beside the fountains.
One exciting aspect of Rim Doi was the critters. We were excited to see all the geckos crawling on the buildings in the evening hours. There were mosquitos...bring your repellent for sure. In addition, there were many ants, some big beetles, and other small bugs. One of our tour group members had geckos crawling on his ceiling at night and many reported ants and other bugs crawling around in their rooms overnight. If you have critter issues, you may want to stay somewhere else. I, personally, didn't have a problem - killed the mosquitos, hoped for a gecko or two (no luck!) and didn't mind what few ants I saw in my room.
We ate dinner and breakfast at the resort. Dinner was wonderful...a wide array of traditional Thai foods. After dinner, we were excited to get ice cream bars from the freezer. Breakfast, unfortunately, was not quite as nice. They had a wide array of traditional Thai breakfast items...none were to my taste. We made good use of the toast option for breakfast that day!
WiFi internet is available on the grounds. The signal was even strong in the bungalow...a refreshing surprise at the end of the day! One hour of internet service was 50 baht. You purchase a small card with a login id and password which worked very easily.
I was sorry that we only spent one night at this location and would gladly return here someday. The only negative aspect of the stay was the lack of 'American options' for breakfast Just bring some poptarts along! Also, don't forget your camera...lots of great photo opportunities here!
