Thank you Wirote and Net for such an amazing day with Watong and her baby! I got into Chiang Mai and only had a couple of days there, so time was short. I called Ran-Tong at about 7:30 in the evening the night I arrived, and though they did not have a tour going the next day, they agreed to take just me. What an amazing solo experience to get up and close with these amazing animals and get so much attention from my guides. My one concern with this trek: how the elephants were treated, as I did not want my money going anywhere animals were abused or neglected. Wirote and Net obviously care greatly about these animals and have made them their life --- what a sweet, informative, and amazing couple. Don't let the chains fool you --- I witnessed these animals spending most of their day wandering and grazing the forest and quickly came to realize the chains are no different than stalls for horses. Sometimes they need to be kept close for a reason (for health or for a tour, etc.).
