I stayed at Fern Paradise from Jun3-6, 2008. I wish I had stayed longer.

Khun Niwat, architect and owner, has created a true retreat from city life. In the midst of the tranquility of the grounds, it is easy to forget that you are so close to a major city.

The refurbished rice barns, hidden amongst the various fern species, have been renovated to create a very warming and charming style. They are extremely well presented and very comfortable.

Khun Om, manager of Fern Paradise, is without a doubt the friendliest and most helpful person I met during my stays in various hotels in Thailand. I felt like a guest of Khun Om, not like a paying customer. All staff at Fern Paradise were friendly, helpful, and seemed to take pleasure from the environment..

Meals at Fern Paradise are terrific - the best green chicken curry I had in Thailand. It is very comforting to know that after a day of touring Chiang Mai, you can come home to such a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and enjoy a lovely meal in such an environment.

I would highly recommend Fern Paradise to anyone travelling to Chiang Mai. I will definitely be staying again when I next visit Chiang Mai.

“Absolutely Incredible--Fern Paradise”

This place is exactly how others have described it. Our train to Chang Mai was 2 hours late, but the owner's son was still there waiting for us when we arrived! Fern Paradise is family run and lives right there so they definitely take care of the place as if it was their own house (because it is!)

The owner is an avid fern lover and we spent over an hour with him as he gave us a personal tour explaining how ferns grow and some of the 260+ species he has growing. He could easily charge admission for this incredible tour, but happily does it for free with the hope that you may consider growing a fern or two when you get home.

You stay in a converted rice barn, on the open lower level they have a living room area set up with a comfortable hammock and your air conditioned bedroom/bathroom is in the barn. The owner is an architect who wanted to preserve traditional thai rice culture and saved these barns from the countryside to relocate to his area with the intent to turn it into a museum. Thankfully he changed his mind and turned it into a hotel instead!

You can take a green car into town by walking up to the road (~15 baht). These are just pickup trucks with covered backs/bench seats, kind of like an open air bus. I recommend just ringing the buzzer at reception and asking them to call a taxi and let them know what time you'd like to leave. A taxi will cost 200 baht ($6 USD) to get to the night bazaar or anywhere in the old city.

They also include breakfast which was absolutely incredible. You have the option of western or thai style and it was an amazing feast. I highly recommend Fern Paradise and would love to go back. It's an incredible value for the price!

Stayed here for 4 nights on our honeymoon last month at the end of our travels around Asia. We booked purely based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and against the advice of our travel agent. This truly is the most romantic and special place andI wont repeat all the thingsother reviwers have said. My thoughts are
* DON'T book if you want to be in the centre of town and close to all the action
* DON'T book if you hate bugs and weird noises in the night
* DO book if you want a truly romantic getaway after the hustleof Bangkok
* DO book if you want to stay somewhere unique and magical that you will remember forever

We are a couple from Italy. We stayed 3 nights in this fabolous small resort last May. We have booked at this place on the basis on the amazing reviews we found on this website, and everything we had read was true! If you want to stay far from the crowd, but still conveniently near to the city, this is the best place. The lush green and the unique hospitality of the owners (Om and his wife) won't disappoint you. Also try to the have dinner here at least once, very very good food, and it was nice to dine only the two of us with all this nature around.Go for it!

We stayed at the beautiful fern paradise for 4 nights during which we celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary. We couldnt have wished for a more amazing place to celebrate our special day. The family made us feel so special and even left a lovely bouquet of flowers in our room with their best wishes for our anniversary.

The family were all so attentive and helped us in ensuring we had a brilliant trip in chaing mai. The fern paradise tour with Dr Niwat was one of our highlights. All the family made us feel so welcome and took the time to talk to us about the thai culture, we learnt far more than we could from any guide book!

Althought fern paradise is situated outside of the main city this is not a problem at all as the taxis are cheap and very reliable. The location is ideal as you are close enough to reach the hustle of the main city without having it on your door step.

We feel so priviledged to have been able to stay with you all at fern paradise and hope to be able to return in the future.

Many thanks

Becky and Joe Smith
