We spent 5 nights at this hotel and it was simply okay....The hotel and it's beach location are beautiful - this is basically what you pay for! We had booked a Oceanview Dusit Club Room and it looks exactly as shown on their website - surprisingly, larger than l expected(thankfully!).
We had organised private transfers with the hotel - while every other hotel had a representative holding their hotel sign, the dusit representative was just sitting around- we were lucky to notice him flash the Dusit sign to a couple that passed him..(at this stage we were on our way to call the resort as we thought there was no one there to greet us!) The Dusit driver sped and overtook cars all the way to the hotel - not the most comfortable ride! I would recommend the hotel shuttle- it costs almost half the price and the drive provided is alot smoother & safer!
We arrived around 5pm to the hotel , the check in was pretty smooth - they sit you down in an air conditioned area, provide you with a drink and while you relax, they check you in. They introduce you to your so called 'butler' and she accompanies you to your room.
When we got to our room, they had placed us in a room facing the club Room breakfast restaurant - we were obvioulsy not happy with this so they immediately changed us to a room facing the ocean. The beach was only 10 steps from out private balcony/patio - absolutely gorgeous views! Suprisingly, they did not pack or unpack our bags for us as specified on their website - we would have wanted to do our own upacking though it would have been nice if they actually offered. We had purchased the Club Room for it's benefits - breakfast, afternoon tea, unlimited soft drinks and the evening cocktails however we found that we had to constantly ask for our mini bar to be restocked. The staff at breakfast time looked like they couldn't be bothered been there and the food was pretty tasteless - probably the worst breakfast l have had at a 'five star' hotel however breakfast is located at their Latrotorria Restaurant which offers fabulous views. You had the option of having your afternoon tea at either your room patio, the pool or the beach - this normally included a coffee and either a small sandwich or spring roll etc -they were always on time! The Dusit are pretty tight when it comes to cocktail hour(between 6pm to 7pm) - after they take your order for the first cocktail, you never see them again! We actually had to constantly get up and ask to order another drink - they seem to think that cocktail hour only means one drink! Note, cocktail hour is a great time to watch the sunset - stunning views! If l had known that it was going to be a constant struggle to get the club benefits we paid extra for, l would never have bothered booking a Club Room. Please also be warned that they supposedly offer complimentary clothes pressing however when we requested this, they tried to return my clothing with a bill for drycleaning! Let's just say their english is very limited - they supposedly confused ironing with dry cleaning?!?!Mistake or easy way to try & make extra money? After no assistance from our so called 'butler' that was never readily available, and several calls to speak to a manager, l finally received an apology and assured that the dry cleaning would not show up on our final bill. (Note that our clothes were dry cleaned - they still smelt of my perfume and had definately not been cleaned!)
We also had to constantly request toilet paper, tissues and soap to be restocked - you'd think they'd be readily available..especially in a five star 'world leading hotel'!
We tried the hotel restaurants - the Ruen Thai restaurant offered only very basic thai food, the staff were far from friendly and the atmosphere was cold. The Laguna Cafe actually offered a good variety of Thai food, the staff were attentive & friendly and they were very accomodating to special requests.
Note this hotel is located quite far from Phuket town(30minutes away) & Patong Beach - the hotel does offer a shuttle to these areas however this is at a cost - it has around four pick up and drop off times throughout the day.
We had only planned a short stay at this hotel and even though it's location and the hotel are beautiful, our stay was far from relaxing - it did not run smoothly. I would not really recommend this hotel - if you do stay here, you might want to rethink booking a Club room - the benefits are not readily available and not really worth the extra cost. l would not stay at this hotel again.

“It's ok, if you are in your 60s”

When we first arrived we were upgrated to better view room with renovated fecilities however it was right next to the construction site which had bad noise and was exposed to the builders. We deceided to change the room to the one that has not been renovated which was fairly okay but would definately not pay the full price. Most of the customers are retired couples in their 60s or family with young children. As a young couple it was little boring but the atmosphere of the resort itself were pretty quiet and peaceful.
Resort was very closed to the beach which was the main reason why I deceided to stay in this hotel however you better wake up very early to save yourself a sunbed by the beach as by 9am all the sun beds are taken. (ppl place their stuff to keep sun bed during breakfast)
Resturants in Dusit laguna was ok. Definately recomend the one by the beach which serves nice lobsters and sea food however like any other resorts everything's very over priced, so recomend local resturant along the beach which is 2/3 of the resort price.
Another benefit of staying Dusit was the great transportaion within other resorts such as Banyan tree, Sheraton and other laguna reosrts.
I enjoyed my sytay in Dusit but would not want to go back in the future.
It was just a bit too oldy for us....

“Not what we expected”

On first arriving at the Dusit we were not at all impressed as it did not live up to it's alleged 5* rating. The room we were first given was small and only had a basic old bathroom. We then swapped to another one (more modern) but even then the air conditioning system was faulty and there was a horrible smell of mildew. We returned one day after a trip and one of the walls was covered in damp and the floor was slippy with condensation. Much to say, we were not ammused! We did however switch to a club room which was much better but we were still not happy with the facilties- the pool was quite old and needed renovation- we were certainly decieved by the pictures in the travel brochure! The Thai restaurant and spa were the only good things about this hotel.

We stayed hear after staying in the Banyan Tree, Bangkok and before we went to the Peninsula on our return. So this place had a lot to live up to. I have read previous bad comment's and I have to disagree, we stayed in a Club Room, which was amazing, our arrival was greeted with friendly smiles and refreshing cocktails, we had our own butler on call from 8am to 8pm. They took care (free of charge of things like ironing etc etc), afternoon tea was served wherever we wanted within the hotel, including the beach. My only point would be save you money and don't eat in the hotel, the beach bars are way cheaper and just as good. Although lunch by the pool is recommended and breakfast in a separate restaurant is a nice touch if you are a club guest. It looks from previous reviews like to many people didn't do there research before they went, if you want cheap shopping, tacky girlie bars and KFC, Mc D's etc etc then don't stay hear, buy a package holiday and go to Patong. If however you like a degree of sophistication with some local charm then stay here, go to Bar 360 at the Pavilion's for sun-downers (the best view on the island and they will send a car to collect you) and then head for Lotus on the beach for dinner and finally the Reggae bar a short walk up the sand for late night drinks, its a winner.

This was the next stop after Khao Lak. My first impression of the Laguna resorts as there is 5 hotels in all was what have i booked. We walked into the Dusit and we just did not like it and thought oh my have we got to spend a week here. The staff i think could tell we were a bit dissapointed and all my hubby could say was what a small pool for such a large hotel it looked tiny and all the kids it reminded me of butlins. The staff never smiled and all looked miserable. Anyway we were shown to our room 218 which did have a great ocean view. The rooms were nicely done but very small with glass mirrored walls to make the rooms look bigger. None of the rooms are very private as below was a restaurant and also a promenade on the front. Mostly we ate at the beach shacks on the beach tom yum goong and lotus which was cheap and good quality. The thai restaurant was good at the dusit but expensive. We were also pestered a lot by hawkers on the beach . I think we were more dissapointed as having stayed at the dusit in pattaya which is outstanding and has lovely large pools this was nothing like it in comparison and i would only give this hotel 3 stars. Luxury it is not but that is what i was expecting. Would i book this hotel again NO
