My wife and I stayed at Layalina for a few nights last week in a private heaven room. We were not impressed at all, especially with the rates that there charging. Our room had tons of ants all over the bed, bathroom, and eventually got into all of our luggage. When we complained about the ants, they told us that they knew that it was a problem, but they couldn't do anything about it. We woke up on our last day of ant bites all over our legs and the hotel told us we could find a pharmacy at the Phuket airport. So when we got to the airport, we found out that there's no pharmacy and we would have to wait till we got to bangkok to get some meds to control the itching/
inflammation of the ant bites. They wouldn't allow the taxi to stop on the way to the airport for a pharmacy. Also, do not book anything with the hotel, they will charge you at least 20% more. If you want a taxi or a tour, just go outside and you'll find all the info that you need for a lot cheaper.

Now to the room analysis. The bathroom is very very tiny, with the shower being barely big enough for anyone over 5'8. The bed is rock hard. The hardwood floors are a nice touch and probably the best feature of the room. The upstairs balcony is no value as it gets really hot up there and there's no shade except for a white bedsheet that they hang to provide you a roof. The balcony chair is a flat bed that does not bend, so if you want to read a book in the balcony,
bring your own chair.

The pool is decent size, but they do not clean it and there's only 4 pool chairs. For a hotel that has over 10+ rooms, you would think that they would offer a few more chairs. So if you want a chair, make sure you get to the pool around 7AM.

The included breakfast was decent. The massage and the transportation
to/from the airport you have to keep on asking the hotel workers about or else they will NOT mention it to you. There's only 1-2 people in the hotel that speak decent english.

We had booked the Layalina due to the proximity of the beach but you do not want to go on the beach. It's VERY VERY dirty and the water still hasn't been cleaned up from the tsunami a few years ago.

The pictures on the hotel website do not give it justice. The hotel is on a main road right next to a few clothing stores, massage parlors, and restaurants. I will upload pics that I took in the next few days to showcase how "clean" the beach really is.

For the 4-5 star price that Layalina was charging, you would expect a lot better then a 2 star hotel service.

we stayed at the Layalina for 3 nights and thought it was a great little hotel. The staff were really friendly and they were also very efficient. We had room no 1 on the bottom floor and so had no one on the other side of us and the pool and loung chairs were right in front of our room. The open bathroom could be a bit of a problem for privacy, but we just pulled the shutters dwn and closed them so we didnt have to see each other using the throne. The breakfast was included and one morning I had the Thai congee with chicken + ginger and it was delicious!
all in all I thought it was a really great little place.

“Marvellous hotel”

This small boutique hotel is a true gem, almost directly on Kamala beach. We stayed 6 nights and the hotel more than fulfilled our expectations. The staff was very friendly, especially with our daughter. No hotel is perfect though and we agree with other reviewers about the bathroom. It's very cool but not that "private". We will definitely come back when visiting Kamala again.

“Quiet ocean views”

This place is a simple 16 room oceanfront place. It's brand new, built after the Tsunami. It has the charms of knowing the owner and very nice staff.

The bathrooms are super modern and the views can't be beat. The food at the place isn't that great, but there are plenty of places to eat in the neighborhood. The little town of Kamalai is fantastic, quiet, relaxing and very authentically Thai.

The value for the money for this place simply cannot be beat and we can't wait to come back one day!
