“Ok hotel, but a big warning”

Booked the hotel around 2 weeks in advance thru wotif.com.
When arriving in the hotel around 11:30 pm they told us: no reservation. Sorry. Nothing we can do.
We showed them the printout. Same answer: your travel agent made a mistake. We have no reservation. Unfriendly.
I asked them to call wotif. Declined.
Asked to speak to the manager. Declined.
Very unprofessional, very confrontational.

Called wotif. Helpful lady offered to call the hotel and call me back. The hotel avoided the wotif call at first, finally after talking to wotif again the person did talk to wotif and then 'found' the reservation.

Seems it is standard procedure at the hotel to overbook and when too many bookes guest show up to claim to have no rooms.
And they dont lie well.

Person next to us had booked a room and transfer from the airport. They picked him up with his name on the board (22 USD instead of 3 for a taxi) and then claimed that he does not have a reservation.

Avoild of you plan to arrive later in the evening.

Otherwise the hotel is ok, a bit worn. Coffeeshop is dark and looks like in a basement with low ceiling. Food is ok. You can do much better (Riverside Renaissance, Sofitel) for about the same price. But these hotels are 30-40 min from the airport and the Omni is only 10.

After two weeks of "backpacker" hotels my travel companion left and I had one night on my own...my choice was the OMNI because it is so close to the airport for my 4:30 am flight check-in.

When the taxi dropped me and the porters came out I breathed a deep sigh....how wonderful to be back in 5 stars! After the bags were delivered to my room I fell on the bed and it felt like I was in heaven. I ordered room service and it was prompt and delicious.

Beautiful lobby, wonderful spa, great indoor swimming pool and gym...it was all top quality.

At $110.00 per night it was the most expensive hotel of our two weeks but still seemed a real value compared to 5stars in other countries.

“Good if you want quick airport getaway”

Moevenpick Hotel Saigon

We stayed at the Omni for one night having decided to go 5 star in our first night in HCMC. As we tried to book only one day in advance many of the 5 stars were already fully booked out and I suspect that as this hotel is further out of town it is not quite as busy.
On check-in there was an absolute rabble at the front desk (and lobby filled with smoke) and after a harrowing drive from Mui Ne we were expecting the worse, however it turns out we had booked two rooms in the executive section (top two floors) which has its own check-in so we were whisked away to a much more relaxed check-in suite upstairs.
However it took some very direct words to the receptionist to agree a sensible rate as the hotel was trying to charge an extra US65/night for our youngest daughter age 9 without provision of any extra bedding. Eventually we settled on an additional fee of $9 for breakfast!!! It was interesting to note that the $9 fee showed on the bill as "upselling" is this a trick many five stars are now trying on or was it just the Omni?
Rooms were nicely laid out and very comfortable bedding befitting a 5 star tag. Pool was also very nice and surprisingly removed from the hussle and bussle on the street below.
The executive suite offers free drinks and canapes at 5.30-6.30 so we recouped a bit of our investment then!!!
Breakfast was also served in the executive suite area but was just passable considering the 5 star status.
Getting downtown is a real pain because of the traffic and I recommend considering better located downtown hotels if you want to experience more of the vibrance of Saigon.
Overall the stay was fine but nothing special for the price.

“Good Hotel”

Stayed at the Omni as part of a tour and found the Hotel very good. A little out of town but not a problem as this made the rooms much quieter. We ate in the buffet one night and found the food quite good and tried the spa which was a fair price. The swimming pool and area surrounding excellent.
Would not hesitate staying here again.

“Excellent food”

Moevenpick Hotel Saigon

12 Dec 2007

Situated about 15 minutes from the airport and about 25 minutes from the centre of town, this Hotel is perhaps best suited to those on scheduled tours. Room and public areas all had a high quality finish, though the bathrobes were clearly designed for midgets! The breakfast buffet was extensive and the food of good quality, which applied also to the other eateries offered in Hotel. Staff were pleasant and efficient, though not especially friendly.
