Brunei is a pretty expensive place to stay compared to Malaysia so I found the cheapest hotel I could. They upgraded me to a deluxe room for free which was nice. I stayed 2 nights and really just enjoyed swimming in the pool all afternoon after trekking in the jungle.
The room was fine, yes the mattresses need replacing but it's better than a hostel. It was pretty quiet until at 5am a guy with a leaf blower decided it was time to clean the street outside - but of course that's nothing the hotel can control.
A food market is across the park, it's not amazing but it is cheap and the food is fine. I was going to eat in the hotel restaurant but I felt uncomfortable with the staff all playing pool and smoking in there. Nothing much to do in the area but it's close to the Royal Regalia and a few blocks from the local bus station.
On the last day my airport transfer wasn't booked but they got someone to drive me anyway so at least they took action.
