book your hotel near blue mosque - better choice of restaurants. Hard city to navigate, few road signs and no "you are here" boards so make sure you have a good map. We took taxis everywhere - most were reasonably priced, but avoid using 8-10am 5-7pm rush hours as traffic is bumper to bumper, so fares can be 4-5 times the price. Make sure you have some 1 Lira coins for the public toilets. Bosphorus tour is a must - but be sure to book one with commenteay if you want to know all riverside buildings. Pedlars everywhere - mainly kids; pestering you as walk and when you sit down to eat near Grand Bazaar - tissues, socks, fake perfume, jackets, toys, etc As you try to walk passed bars & restaurants they will invite you in. Check out a few before you stop and enjoy a cold glass of Efes beer. Kayikci Restaurant served a great Tbone steak : Ticazethane Sok (just off Tramvay Yolu near Blue Mosque).
