After booking a boutique hotel that tuned out to be youth hostel, I was glad to say to the taxi driver "take me to the Hilton". The hotel
is expensive for booking on the spot, also they requested a further charge of 45 euro's as the room had a view. Although generally, unless you are bedridden, or you want to spend hours looking out towards a better hotel, football stadium, and a river backdrop forget it. The over charging is not only limited to the views. The mini bar has to be the worlds most expensive one. As two cokes, the smallest Toberone available to man comes in at amazing 35 euros.
The indoor health club is adequate, along with the indoor pool, although you have to wear a swimming hat for the pool which makes everyone look like extras from the scifi series Space 1999. A good outdoor pool and tennis court give this dated hotel a bit of muscle. The location for the hotel is good, with Tasim square around the corner. Forget the talking bus with terrible commnentary, opt for a taxi to the Blue Mosque and hire a guide.
Be on your guard at all times and be very aware of a nice looking bar near the hotel called Bazim City, it may look nice, but you will get a nasty surprise when you get the bill, unless, of course you are a Turk.
Do not be tempted to stray off the main roads around Tasim after dark. It is not safe
The hotel bar on the ninth floor has some solid entertainment, with bar prices to match. The Breakfast is good, but the usual scrum occurs around 9am, so get there early or late.
The hotel is clean, the security is over the top, the location is excellant, it is good for sports, you cannot do much wrong staying here.
