we booked with a certain trepidation but discovered an ideal
breakaway holiday and hotel.
Even the carpet sellers are amusing and great value!!!

Great location for visiting Sultanamet, with friendly staff and some charm, but it has many significant problems.
1) Fleas in the bedroom, providing sleepless nights.
2) Breakfast was in a different building in a restaurant on a street around the corner.
3) There was no room service, the food very poor (experimentation was required).
The hotel could do with a general spruce and/or renovation.

What a perfect little jewel this hotel is. Let's not forget, this is 2-star territory, 2-star pricing, so let's keep our expectations in perspective. If 2-star's your territory, I'd recommend the Angel's Home without hesitation.
The location's fabulous - in a quiet and pleasant area within sight (just) of the Blue Mosque in the tourist heart of Istanbul. If you eat there, the food's superb. The room was basic and the bathroom needed a touch of TLC (my Polish plumber could make it perfect in one day !) - but perfectly acceptable at 2-star prices - plus a few thoughtful and surprising touches provided an extra bit of magic on arrival.
Finally, the staff. The staff make the place - warm, friendly and helpful. Maybe we in the UK have become unused to good, ingenuous service - it arouses suspicion that we're being lured into a con - but at the Angel's rest I do believe it is genuine in intention and delivery.
NB there are two parts to this hotel, a couple of hundred metres apart. We stayed at the No 2 site, the other (main) location looked just as nice (nicer ?) and has a roof terrace with stunning views of the Blue Mosque and the Sea of Marmaris.

As two 26 year old first time travellers to Turkey, my partner and I did not know what to expect coming to Istanbul. We had originally booked only 2 nights at Angel's Home prior to departing Australia, thinking we would likely want to explore elsewhere during our eight nights in Istanbul. However, after staying one night we immediately decided to extend our stay by an additional six nights at Angel's Home. Apart from the fantastic location, the staff and the quality of our room were the deciding factors. We stayed in an incredible double deluxe room, and the staff were fantastic. From advising on tours, things to do and even where and how to get a great birthday cake, it was the staff that really made our stay at the Angel's Home so memorable. After leaving Istanbul only seven days ago, we are already planning our next trip back and will definately stay at the Angel's Home again.
