My husband and I arrived at midnight on New Year's Eve and were checked in quickly and taken to our room. The room was a decent size with a nice bathroom. However, the airconditioning did not work and we were really hot all night. We had to open the windows just to be cool enough to sleep and were woken at 5am by the prayer calls outside, suffice to say it wasn't the best night's sleep we'd ever had. The hotel restaurant was ok, could have been better but the food wasn't too bad. The hotel was very clean throughout.

We booked 2 tours through the hotel using their taxi drivers which were expensive but we didn't have time to find anything cheaper as we were only there for 2 nights. The first tour to Petra was fine, although the driver tried to change the price to a much higher one than we'd already agreed. The second day we went to see quite a few different sights but the driver kept taking us to places where extremely pushy people would try and sell us loads of things, which we were quite annoyed about as it happened quite a few times through the day. If you have more time I would recommend shopping around for better tours.

“Rather a mixed reaction”

Crowne Plaza Hotel Amman

We stayed here for three nights and then one more at the end of the stay in Jordan so two different rooms.
The rooms and bathrooms were of a good size. Facities included a kettle and hospitality tray and the usual cosmetics. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the hotel was clean.
The reception area was pretty standard and the service there OK. More offhand than the Movenpicks we stayed in. There was no guest lounge (the bedroom had one tub chair and a table) because the lounge area was being refurbished. There was a lounge on the top floor which we were told was reserved for businessmen and cost extra.
The food was excellent if you stuck to the Arabic dishes but extremely ordinary if you went Italian or European. I would definitely recommend the top floor restaurant which also had the best staff in the hotel.
The Cafe on the ground floor is a locals meeting place and very smoky. Lots of hubble bubbles with a quite theatrical charcoal replacer.
We had to leave for a Royal Jordanian flight early in the morning and they were completely uninterested in providing anything before we left unless we paid extra. Having paid for a room and breakfast we thought the refusal of even a bread roll with some of the cheese they would be putting out anyway was shabby.
The situation mostly doesn't matter as taxis are very cheap and a tour will take you to the few worthwhile sites in Amman. On the other corner of the roundabout by the hotel is a shopping area but you take your life in your hands crossing the road. There are no lights and the traffic ignores pedestrian crossings. Really dangerous if you aren't nippy. Worth the effort for a coffee and gorgeous cakes in Chez Hilda (really). If you are going shopping the Mecca Mall was a couple of dinars in a taxi.
We got the impression the hotel wasn't interested in people paying for themselves, even if via a tour operator, but if your company is picking up the tab it is different.
So an adequate stay with some reservations.

Booked a non-smoking room. Got a smoking room.
Moved on second day.
Non-smoking room but filled overnight with smoke via AC.
Bathroom door fell off hinges! Hurt wife.
Heating not working (supposed to have heat) Freezing.
Staff confused and poorly trained.
Incessent noise of building work next door.
The worst hotel I've stayed in in a long time.

“Typical City Hotel”

Crowne Plaza Hotel Amman

Spent three nights in Amman on a tour of Jorden. The Hotel doesn't stand out in any way it is a typical city hotel the could be anywhere, anycity. It is basically bland with a bland Reception, a couple of seats against the wall and a dusty piano. The staff were helpful and the food was OK. The rooms were small and supprisingly quiet at night.

I've been to Amman several times for business. All hotels in the area were booked and was put here. Never again.
Stayed here 3 nights (26 Feb - 1 Mar 07). Hotel claims to be a 4 star but would only give it two.
Pros: Zaytouneh Restaurant one of the best Italian Restuarants in Amman. Great Food and service.
Cons: Rooms are old and worn. Several of us complained about the lack of A/C in the rooms. Not very good sleeping when the room temp is 77 degrees with no air movement. Carpet was black. The only thing good about the room is that the bathroom seemed new. Other then that, I would not stay here again.
