Stayed at this hotel twice in 2007 (September and November). Booked the hotel directly at Four Seasons website, and paid 190 USD per night including breakfast.
This is a wonderful hotel and the best place to stay in Damascus. There is no competition in the Damascus luxury hotel scene today. But InterContinental and two other international hotel chains are currently developing hotels in Damascus. So this might change in the future. Anyway, I did enjoy both of my stays here, and to be honest I would rate this hotel as one of the better Four Seasons Hotels. The room and suite (I tried both) were large, modern, clean, bright, warm colours, immaculate, offered great views, wonderful and luxurious bathrooms, great restaurants and friendly FS service. The public areas are beautiful, the bar is cosy and the lounge are nice too. The breakfast was so-so, just okey, but nothing to write home about. The outdoor pool was remarkably small and cold, but this did not bother me. I find it strange that they don't have an indoor pool, like most FS.
The location are perfect, right in the middle of downtown, walking distance to cafelife and restaurants. This hotel have everything you can expect from a FS. I find this FS to be way better than the FS in NYC. I would rate this FS among my favourites, along with the ones in Istanbul and Amman:)
I had only one complaint regarding this hotel, but the general manager solved this problem very efficiently by taking action towards the staff member which was involved. The staff member refused to accept my FS giftcard, telling me there were no such thing. I kept insisting that he should accept the giftcard, as it was valid at ALL FS properties. Then I said he was not doing his job in a proper and polite way, as he was discussing and refusing to accept the giftcard. He responded angrily saying he would call the Syrian police. I felt this as a very serious treat, coming because I had a relevat discussion with a FS front desk employee about a giftcard. No bad words said, and he treatened me with police if I did not stop insisting he should accept the giftcard. I called on the GM the next morning, and he was shocked because of his staff member's behaviour. He took immediate action, and I got upgraded to a beautiful suite on my next stay (November 2007).
Very nice staff, greeted by both GM and assisting manager at all times. Friendly staff in both restaurants and bars.
Would love to return to this hotel and Damascus anytime:) Wonderful city too!!
