We went to Abu Dhabi for business and stayed at the new St. Regis on Saadiyat island. Although the hotel is hailed as an island resort, it also provides all the services that a business trip requires. In terms of location, it is on a newly developed area, and about 25 minutes from the Abu Dhabi International Airport. In terms of hardware, the hotel is absolutely stunning, with a grand lobby, nicely designed rooms, stylish restaurants, and a beautiful pool/outdoor area.
The room is spacious and has all the amenities (however, no coffe/tea making facilities) that one needs: free WIFI, flat screen TV, iron, bathrobe, slippers, etc. Note: I fell in love with the bathroom! I loved how the two sinks are separated by the shower (gives a heightened sense of space) and the bathtub is the best I've ever laid in. In fact, I think I'm going to get the same bathtub for my own home.
In terms of the restaurants: Breakfast is served at the Olea restaurant and the choices are bountiful: stations for eggs, pancakes, Asian noodles, Indian delicacies, Middle East selections, you name it. We dined at Sontaya (Asian) and 55th + 5th (Steaks and Western) and enjoyed both meals.
As someone else mentioned, the Athletic Club is probably the most comprehensive and professional hotel gym there is. There were numerous treadmills, elliptical machines, plus other weight training, pilates, yoga materials. It is a few minutes by foot from the hotel itself, so you start your workout immediately by walking in the hot sun! We did not have time to try out the spa, but it looks very good. The few minutes we had to spend by the pool, we thought the set up was very luxurious, with private cabanas to hide out from the sun if one wishes.
The service is impeccable at the hotel. We were assigned a personal butler, who really was at our beck and call and provided assistance when needed. Other than the butler, the rest of the staff was friendly and amiable.
If we are really picky, then the only downside is that as the St. Regis is the first hotel on the island, the area is not yet fully developed, so there isn't anything to do nearby. However, I understand that shops will open soon and soon enough there will be a lot of attractions nearby. In the meantime, the hotel provides enough to distract guests for either a holiday or a business trip.
