We spent just one night in this elegant four star hotel, formerly the Pansea, peacefully located in Yangon’s ‘embassy district’, about 3 km from the city centre (Sule Paya). The property is a sensitive conversion of the residence of the former governor of the Shan territories and has pleasant gardens and a small but adequate pool. The public areas are spacious and the outdoor dining is an evocative experience. Our mini suite was well equipped but the bathroom was small. The staff were friendly and efficient.
The main competition is the five star downtown Strand, also an elegant conversion of an historic property but without outdoor space or a pool. The Strand might suit business travellers better but the Governor’s Residence seems a good choice for tourists.
Recommended.
