“We had THE BEST 6-hr tour with Noheir and the driver in Giza last month! They are EXCELLENT, we recommend them highly!”
Our tour guide Noheir Guirguis and the Toursgate driver gave us excellent advice about the best places to go to. They were helpful, respectful, friendly, and completely trustworthy. Genuinely nice people sensitive to our needs (we are both 56). We did a 6-hour tour and saw the great pyramid and other pyramids, had a desert camel ride (a lot of fun!), saw the awesome sphynx, drove to the ancient capital and saw Rameses (amazing), saw the 'zigzag' pyramid built in about 2,700BC, bought genuine papyrus paintings and were shown how the papyrus is made. The ONLY thing we felt we should have been given better advice on was what going inside the great pyramid is like. We paid to go in at the pyramid entrance, but after finding out from others exiting what it was really like, and having a look, I stayed outside while my husband went in! It's not very far up to the tomb, but it's airless inside (not good for asthmatics and certainly not for claustrophics), and there's a very low, narrow tunnel secion that's pretty difficult to negotiate. We are pretty adventurous, so this complaint is not from a whinger! My husband is tall and suffered with badly cramped legs for 3-4 days after, from the downward walk. Also, he didn't appreciate a group of about 16 people from West Europe who were holding candles in a circle doing their mystical hommming. They took over the tomb and made others feel like they were intruding on their thing. They shouldn't be allowed to practice their rituals there. It's not the fault of our tour guide, it's something the tourism authorities should be doing something about. Also, it's a great pity these amazing historical places have the polluted, dusty city so close to them. They are world treasures, remarkable and so amazing to see! We SO glad we went, and thought 6 hours was a comfortable length of time for this tour of the main sites in Giza.
