Stayed here in July '04 - 3 nights. Definitely ask for a room with Nile view (front of hotel). Spectacular and alot better than rooms at the back with built up view. Rooms are spacious, clean and functional with balconies. Staff are helpful and there is a small shopping area in the hotel. Breakfast plentiful and restaurant overlooks Nile. Road is very noisy and busy, but that's Cairo. Yes, hotel is not centrally located, but taxis are abundant and very cheap. Tip: don't stand outside hotel entrance and flag a taxi - driver will have you down as rich tourist - cross the road and walk a little way from hotel then flag down taxi. Another tip: be independent and hire a taxi for the day - bargain your rate and visit tourist sites yourself - driver is yours for the day and will wait for you, I even came back to the hotel early afternoon for a rest and then went out again with same taxi. Don't miss less visited Pyramids at Saqquara - alot of tour groups do. And finally nothing beats laying in the pool and looking across at the Pyramids in the distance (haze permitting) - can see them from room balcony too (front). Good value for money and would stay again. Not as plush as some of the large hotels in Cairo nearer the Pyramids, but has security of Sofitel brand and great for a short stay on the banks of the Nile.

We had a bit of trouble on arriving here as the shower was broken in the room and despite sending people to fix it, we got a room change to a Nile view which was fantastic! Ask for a room on the front else you get a view of roofs!
Despite the half hour cofuffle over the room change which seemed to confuse the entire staff?!? we were very pleased with the rest of the stay. Didn;t use the pool as it didnt look too inviting in February!
Good hotel, maybe a bit far out. Not much around the immediate location.
