The Cairo Conrad is a standard business hotel and lacks the charm, efficiency and facilities of other Conrads I have stayed in recently (Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, London Chelsea, Dublin, Mount Juliet and New York). My executive level room was clean and comfortable and very well insulated from the persistent noisy traffic day and night. The room was not of equivalent standard to the other Conrads mentioned.
The restaurant offering in the hotel is dreadful. The only one which was decent was the Italian one - it was very average yet very expensive.
My main memory of the hotel was of being ripped off at every opportunity. Almost every member of staff I encountered blatently asked for tips. I found this unexpected behaviour. I had arranged a guide through the hotel (and he was poor with very basic English, who failed to understand many of my questions). Upon departure I noted the hotel had added a 4% convenience charge for arranging the guide.
For the privelige of eating in any restaurant and signing to my room there was a 2% convenience charge. My room rate was quoted in US dollars, converted to local currency at a poor rate and then billed back to US dollars at an even worse rate to be charged to my credit card.
Service charge is included in all prices yet you will be constantly asked for extra "tips".
My main memory is of a greedy hotel not up to the standard of other Conrad hotels.
