“Biggest Rip Off in Egypt?”

The Cairo Conrad is a standard business hotel and lacks the charm, efficiency and facilities of other Conrads I have stayed in recently (Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, London Chelsea, Dublin, Mount Juliet and New York). My executive level room was clean and comfortable and very well insulated from the persistent noisy traffic day and night. The room was not of equivalent standard to the other Conrads mentioned.

The restaurant offering in the hotel is dreadful. The only one which was decent was the Italian one - it was very average yet very expensive.

My main memory of the hotel was of being ripped off at every opportunity. Almost every member of staff I encountered blatently asked for tips. I found this unexpected behaviour. I had arranged a guide through the hotel (and he was poor with very basic English, who failed to understand many of my questions). Upon departure I noted the hotel had added a 4% convenience charge for arranging the guide.

For the privelige of eating in any restaurant and signing to my room there was a 2% convenience charge. My room rate was quoted in US dollars, converted to local currency at a poor rate and then billed back to US dollars at an even worse rate to be charged to my credit card.

Service charge is included in all prices yet you will be constantly asked for extra "tips".

My main memory is of a greedy hotel not up to the standard of other Conrad hotels.

I recently had a holiday in Egypt and stayed at the Hotel Conrad with two girlfriends. We had a great time. On arrival I found the staff on reception friendlyy and helpful when we needed assistance and always with a smile.
This also applies to the bar staff and the staff around the pool area.
We ate at the restaurant Tiran where we found and manager Hassan well dressed, very friendly and again with a smile always willing to help. They did a very efficient job of making sure that there was plenty of everything and clearing and resetting tables very quickly.
So overall my stay at the Conrad was a most pleasurable time and I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation and would also return to holiday at the Conrad.
It will be recommended to family and friends.

“Standard Business Hotel”

The Conrad Cairo is a run-of-the-mill business hotel, certainly not a five-star level property. Rooms are fine - comfortable, clean and featuring nice beds with comfortable pillows and linens. Bathrooms (at least on the Club Level where I stayed) were a good size and well-appointed. My room had a small balcony with two chairs, which was nice for looking out over the city.

Food in the restaurants is on the mediocre side. Fish that I had in the Italian venue was extremely overcooked and tough, soup was tasteless and inedible. Breakfast buffet on the Club Level was a bit above average, with lots of hot choices as well as fruits, yogurts and many different kinds of baked goods.

Service was adequate, but I experienced a couple of problems. The front desk asked me (quite insistently) to pay the bill for another guest (who I had never met); and the in-house bank refused to change money for me on two different occasions ("Come back in an hour," I was told each time).

I didn't get to use the pool since it is currently under refurbishment, but the area looks inviting. Ventured into the casino in the basement, but it was spookily empty, so I didn't stay for long.

The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is not conducive to walking - you must cross a busy highway to get to the Nile, where you can walk along a riverside walkway (one direction is demolished and under construction, however). The area behind the hotel is filled with mostly lower-class apartments and the retail establishments are really not for tourists: auto parts, vinyl sheeting, rebar and the like.

“Overrated”

Conrad Cairo

Rooms are decent for Conrad, although room rate high for Cairo. Do not use the car service - again way overpriced, and despite multiple confirmations, did not show up at airport. Use the registered limos at airport which are clean and reliable, and way cheaper than hotel car. Same problem next morning - car organized but no show. The Front Desk Manager was quite fake about his concern for this. Dinner in the Italian restaurant was OK, but again for $110 USD, I can eat a far better meal elsewhere in Cairo. Overall, Conrad Cairo is overrated, and would stay elsewhere next time for the same money.

“Very pleasant stay with the Best Guide!”

Conrad Cairo

We stayed 3 nights at the Conrad with our 4 year old son. We were going to use the hotel's airport service, but when we were quoted more than $50 for their meet and greet, we asked our guide, Emad Hadeda to pick us from the airport (he did it for $20). Despite the hour delay of our arrival, everything went very smoothly. I will write more about our guided tour below, but I agree with the many others who have written rave reviews -- I would recommend Emad to anyone going to Cairo.

Check-in was smooth, and the room was fine. We had a Nile view, but the traffic in front of the Nile was pretty conjested, so we did not really go out on the balcony...

We ordered room-service a couple of times, and each time the food came promptly and was very good. I also recommend the Egyptian restaurant. They play traditional music for you, and the food was delicious!

First day of sightseeing: Emad and his driver picked us up from the lobby and we went to the Cairo museum and inside the Giza pyramids. Emad was fantastic. He is an archeologist as well as your bodyguard. We even got to go inside the Khufu pyramids, as Emad had the connections to get us the tickets. We also went to see how papyrus was made and I bought a pendant with my name written in hierglyphics. The tour cost $20/person, no charge for our son.

Second day of sightseeing: We went to Dashur, Memphis, and Sakkara with Emad and his driver. It was such an amazing experience to see these pyramids, just breathtaking. We also went to see the carpet school in Sakkara, and bought some Egyptian cotton bedsheets at the Funky Bros. Shop. We also to an aromatherapy shop and bought some perfume. This tour cost $25/person. We also gave both Emad and the driver a big tip for the wonderful service.

The hotel pool is under construction, but apparently you can go to the Hilton next door to use their pool. We never did, as it was still quite chilly outside.

All in all, we had a great time in Cairo!!
