“Most comfortable beds and pillows ever slept on”

We recently stayed twice at the Conrad Cairo; at the beginning and end of our Egyptian holiday. Each time we occupied two executive rooms as we were travelling with our teenage daughters.

The beds and pillows were the most comfortable that I have ever slept on. I travel frequently and have spent a lot of time in five star hotels but I have never encountered any as good as this.

The staff are very professional and friendly. The hotel is very clean as are the rooms. We had non smoking rooms each time. The bathrooms were huge and had a separate glass shower and large soaking tub. The toileteries were very nice and good size as well.

Our rooms included use of the executive lounge where we had breakfast each day and evening appetizers and cocktails.

We ate at the Italian restaurant and the Egyptian/ Lebanese restaurant. Each were very good. Prices were a bit expensive for Egypt but good value in comparison to Canadian prices. We pretty much found that prices at any five star hotel in Egypt were much more than you would pay if you went to a small place down the road.

One afternoon we wandered over to the Arcadia mall which is about a block away on the same street. We had lunch at the restaurant there and the pasta and desserts were fabulous and extremely cheap. I think the restaurants name was something like Tritan.

I would most definitely stay at the Conrad Cairo again if we were to ever return to Cairo.

“Nice spacious rooms, but disappointing room-service”

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a business trip. Upgraded to the executive floors for (a) better view (b) breakfast each morning and (c) somewhere to conduct meetings outside the lobby area.

Overall, a very nice hotel. The rooms were olde-worlde with tall ceilings and a sense of spaciousness that is hard to come by. The room service was, however, disappointing - one day they came, changed some fruit, and left ... no new towels, no fresh sheets ... nothing. That can always happen, of course, but two days in a row (the second time they forgot the bathroom) it becomes irritating.

On the plus side, the staff seemed genuinely guest-friendly, and the it person was available at 1 am to help me with some logging in issues.

On the negative side, two things: First, the food was expensive. We ate in the Sultana restaurant during the Lebanese promotion. It was extremely depresssing to sit in a dimly lit hallway (because it felt like a kitchen floor underfoot and not like a dedicated space) with a three piece band which was one less than the total number of guests for the two hours we were there.

The Sunday buffet was ok - nothing spectacular at all. And overpriced. All the food comes with a 12% gov. tax and a further 12% service charge - worth thinking about if you're watching a budget or per diem.

Second, the limo and taxi services outside the hotel are 6 and 4 times more expensive than the other Formula One racers driving up and down the street outside. Clearly, it makes sense for security to take someone known to the hotel, but if you can secure a driver for the duration of your stay using other means (office contacts/friends) do so ... it's a lot more convfenient.

But, all things being equal, I would stay here again. I would not, however, pay more than the corporate rate of $160 that we had.

“Excellent standard. An Oasis in Cairo”

This place is such a contrast to the Cairo outside. I was surprised at the recent posting of a bad review. Yes, you pay 2% for having chagres billed to your room and the hotel add 4% for arranging things like the tour (which is not part of the hotel, they just operate there, so you could by-pass the hotel altogether). But, everything is so cheap, 2 or 4% amounts to small change. I had a decent club sandwich and a coke pool side for GBP 9.00 (so 2% is 18p). I booked the guide with the hotel and was driven around for 4 hours in a new Mercedes (in Cairo traffic, the more comfortable your car the better) for GBP 50.00 (so add 4% and the hotel effectively charged me GBP 2.00 – big deal). I speak a basic level of Arabic so got on great with the guide, who is really just a driver. I recommend it but there are many tour companies who will provide personal tours.

The Tips comment is also unusual. Maybe that person mis-heard the term “How are you enjoying your stay?” as “Give me a tip”. No one ever asked me for anything except how I was or was there anything I needed.

I had a room on the executive floor which was the same in layout as the ones on the other floors as I knew people staying there. It just offered a few extras like free drinks in the executive lounge and a fruit plate etc. The view from level 21 was brilliant and the room itself as immaculate as the pics in the website suggest. Even the mini bar was good value. The bed was one of the best I have slept on. A true non smoking room too it seemed.

This is a good value for money 5 star hotel. Right on the Nile, a good base to explore Cairo. I would only stay here if I was to visit again.

“Biggest Rip Off in Egypt?”

The Cairo Conrad is a standard business hotel and lacks the charm, efficiency and facilities of other Conrads I have stayed in recently (Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, London Chelsea, Dublin, Mount Juliet and New York). My executive level room was clean and comfortable and very well insulated from the persistent noisy traffic day and night. The room was not of equivalent standard to the other Conrads mentioned.

The restaurant offering in the hotel is dreadful. The only one which was decent was the Italian one - it was very average yet very expensive.

My main memory of the hotel was of being ripped off at every opportunity. Almost every member of staff I encountered blatently asked for tips. I found this unexpected behaviour. I had arranged a guide through the hotel (and he was poor with very basic English, who failed to understand many of my questions). Upon departure I noted the hotel had added a 4% convenience charge for arranging the guide.

For the privelige of eating in any restaurant and signing to my room there was a 2% convenience charge. My room rate was quoted in US dollars, converted to local currency at a poor rate and then billed back to US dollars at an even worse rate to be charged to my credit card.

Service charge is included in all prices yet you will be constantly asked for extra "tips".

My main memory is of a greedy hotel not up to the standard of other Conrad hotels.

I recently had a holiday in Egypt and stayed at the Hotel Conrad with two girlfriends. We had a great time. On arrival I found the staff on reception friendlyy and helpful when we needed assistance and always with a smile.
This also applies to the bar staff and the staff around the pool area.
We ate at the restaurant Tiran where we found and manager Hassan well dressed, very friendly and again with a smile always willing to help. They did a very efficient job of making sure that there was plenty of everything and clearing and resetting tables very quickly.
So overall my stay at the Conrad was a most pleasurable time and I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation and would also return to holiday at the Conrad.
It will be recommended to family and friends.
