“how is this the #1 reviewed hotel, terrible and misleading people”

Well Im not sure what everyone else that has reviewed is talking about. This hotel leaves a lot to be desired, and unfortunately the reviews below do not adaquetley describe what this hotel is. Here is what this hotel is...we arrived in cairo at 8pm. It took our taxi an hour and a half to find it while driving around asking everyone everywhere. Oh yeah we were in a taxi b/c the hotel driver never showed to pick us up as pre arranged so that cost us money. we pulled up to this run down building and at first I thought I was about to be ripped off since you wouldn't guess the best reviewed hotel was in the structure. The hotel staff is unwilling to do anything, the meals are sub par at best, and you can only get food/drink (juice or water only so far) at pre arranged times if your lucky. We got to the hotel needing some mix for some vodka we brought, and they said they couldn't help. Then the next night dinner is servered from 6-9pm only!!!! At 830 when I asked if we could get some food the reply was not tonight. I questioned them about their dinner hours and they said yes normally but not tonight! So again that sucked. The TV in the room is a huge 13" with about 12 channels, 3 are english. Why would we watch TV on our HONEYMOON?? Cause the hotel staff is useless and has no ideas for what we can do. Anyway I could go on and on, oh yeah the bathroom in our room is completely renovated, but the shower head only points at the wall, the glass doors leak and being a tradesman myself I was looking for ways to fix all the problems instead of enjoying my stay. Anyway I would recommend this hotel to people on a tight budget that are willing to put up with some hotdogs for breakfast sausage and poorly cooked scrammbled eggs, so if your not on a tight budget, I wouldn't stay here, there is no night life, no hotel service, and the neighbourhood leaves a lot to desire...a lot!

My husband and I just returned from a five day stay in Egypt. We stayed at the Longchamps and were extremely impressed. We used the airport pick up service provided by the hotel which was quick and reliable. The room was spotless and the bathroom was extremely clean. There was room service and satellite t.v. which was useful after long days of touring the sights. The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially Andrea. The breakfast buffet was very generous and served in a beautifully decorated room. The area was great and nice to walk around in. There are many restaurants (the Korean restaurant Hana was great) in the area. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cairo. It made our experience there very comfortable.

I stayed at the Longchamps for over 2 weeks in June 2008 and can't say enough good things about this hotel. Hebba, the owner, was wonderful to correspond with via email prior to my trip. She was also welcoming and very attentive to everything in the hotel. I got sick my second day in Cairo (from eating at a restaurant downtown) and called the front desk. Hebba was wonderful, sending staff out for medicine and checking up on me throughout the day and the next few days.

Andrea was wonderful to work with, and always helpful and cheerful. The staff was wonderful - they were reserved the first few days, but we got to know each other quickly and it was so pleasant to be greeted by name whenever I saw them and talk with them about Cairo. Said and Youssef were very good to us, and Youssef even came in early on the day we left to say goodbye.

The location is fantastic, the neighborhood is very convenient, and the hotel is clean and inviting. I stayed in room 5, and it was very spacious, though the bathroom is smaller than some other rooms. It also has an attached private patio area that was really nice. I enjoyed meeting other travelers on the terrace. We used their airport service and the driver was courteous and the car was very nice. The breakfast was very good, and the meals I had there were very good as well.

I plan to return to Cairo next year, and already plan to return to the Longchamps.

this hotel really is a gem--great location, wonderful staff, and all around one of the best small hotels i've stayed in, ever.

located on a somewhat quiet street in zamalek, the hotel is nonetheless close to a pharmacy, supermarket (metro), small stores, and restaurants (was not impressed with Five Bells, try the italian place across the street from it instead; much better).

the hotel is located on the 5th floor and is immaculately clean, with most of the fixtures apparently coming from germany (i noticed rewe trashcan liners!). (the staff speaks german and the assistant manager is german.) the bathrooms are modern, although the one in room we had (2?) had a small window that opened onto the balcony outside so you have to close the window when using the bathroom, meaning it can get quite humid and warm in there. [the best option is to just shower with the bathroom door open, imho].

the breakfast buffet has a nice variety of foods, hot and cold, and is a great start to the day.

the owner/manager, hebba bakri, runs a very tight ship (if you see her interact with her staff, you'll see what i mean), but the hard work pays off in a wonderful hotel, one that i'd gladly stay in again and highly recommend!

We had the priviledge of staying 2 nights at the tail end of a 13 day Egypt Tour. We found the hotel to be in a great central tranquil garden like location. Room was small and so was bathroom. It was clean and the TV and AC worked.Breakfast was tasty and provided a variety of hot & cold foods. We were picked up and dropped off at the airport with minimum fuss. Our flight was late but driver waited. Service was not overly friendly but was professional. We did have a problem with a tour to Alexandria that the hotel booked on our behalf. Ms Andrea refunded our money with no hesitation to make it right. We did appreciate that. We would definitely stay at the hotel again and recoomend it to others. One of the nicer places in Cairo for sure.
