“Not a quiet place”

Grand Pyramids Hotel

We stayed three nights at the GPC, beg. of March 08.

Room was on the 4th floor, with a view on the pool, and a balcony. It was clean, and bathroom was OK.
After 6PM, music at the pool was really annoying. Moreover, a brifge is being built in front on the hotel, and the road conditions are awful (dust, noise, traffic jams)
We had a dinner at the italian restaurant : looks like the chief does not know how to cook lasagnas

Overall, I don't recommend the hotel. It's close to the pyramids, but far from cairo downtown : anyway, you will have to spend hours in the traffic jams.

Overall we had two positive experiences staying at this hotel. Like others you have posted reviews we stayed here as part of a tour.

The first time we were on the third floor of one of the buildings. The room was very large and comfortable. The balcony had a great view over the pool area.

However our first stay music seemed to pound through the walls and the food delivered via room service was very cold.

The second time we had a ground floor room. The floor only had tiles which might be fine in summer if you are spending a lot of time in the pool but in the middle of winter made it very cool.

However, this time there was no problem with the music and the food delivered to our room was warmer.

Both times the breakfast was rather poor. Most of the hot food is cold. The waffles and omelettes are small and they are very slow at getting through the line. There are also a lot of people down at breakfast at the same time and the room itself isn’t big enough to hold the number of people.

The internet usage rates were lower than a number of other places we had stayed at in Egypt, and the business centre had the most computers out of any other place we stayed.

There is meant to be a heated pool somewhere in the hotel but we were not told about it until our second visit and then were unable to find it.

One of the best things however is that there is a supermarket just up the road. The hotel can get fussy about people bringing back large quantities of water but we just put them into our backpacks and had no problems. The range of food is quite large and it’s a great place to stock up on any essentials and junk food as the prices were significantly lower. Just be careful about people looking for tips. The supermarket was one of the only places in Egypt where people demanded tips or expected tips for having done nothing.

“Good Choice for Tour Groups”

Overall, this was the nicest hotel we stayed in for Egypt, and I left it with very good impressions. It is clean, expansive, and has many services. Walking back into this hotel after a week's experience in the rest of Egypt made us realize what a haven it is. It was great to return to the 5-star luxury of the Grand Pyramids.

Many tour groups stay here and the lobby is often filled with groups meeting up. Breakfast times are often packed by groups leaving at a particular time. In fact, the hotel desk staff is not very friendly or helpful for someone wanting to make independent plans - perhaps because this hotel caters to tour groups. We asked if there was a nice restaurant that had a view of the Pyramids - the staff said they had never heard of one. Ridiculous. They also told some people that they didn't know of anyone offering tours of Cairo, when any taxi driver can be hired for the day to do so. So if you are travelling independently, this hotel in Giza may not be your best bet - especially since it is far from the tourist sites (besides the pyramids and Pyramids Street nightclubs like the Parisiana).

The breakfast is generous and terrific, with fresh omelettes pastries, coffee, and American, Chinese and Middle EAstern breakfast food. The ladies bringing around the coffee were so nice.

The cleaning staff here is so sweet. They made me a towel mummy! On Valentine's Day, we had towels in the shape of hearts. They were happy to talk with me in Arabic. I also enjoyed the staff working at the Pergola restaurant. It was only the front-desk staff that was unfriendly.

A few problems included: noisiness from the constant music played in the outdoor restaurant, wet floors after carpets were cleaned, doors seemed to relock each day and have to be rekeyed.

We spent a total of 4 nights at this hotel as a part of our Peregrine Mummies and Pharoahs family tour. It was a comfortable hotel It was a good spot for seeing the Pyramids, Sphinx - but a bit of a taxi ride into central Cairo. The buffet breakfast was good, mostly the staff were friendly and pleasant. There was a shopping centre a short walk away down a dusty , busy street. We had a view of the pyramids from our room window. The only problem was with the triple room for the 3 kids - there were only 2 single beds and it took a bit of reshuffling to get 3 single beds in 1 room.

“Not such a bad place to rest a weary head”

Grand Pyramids Hotel

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights over a 2 wk period in October. Quite frankly, each visit was different and I would hazard a guess that it has more to do with the work ethic of the cleaning staff then any management input. There were plenty of management types around but they were on their cell phones bragging about overbooking the hotel, or having coffee/tea with each other and not looking after the guests' best interests. On the other hand, the staff from guest reception to breakfast staff was very helpful, even when faced with the constant problems due to incorrect booking/paying by our local tour agent, they were always gracious.

On the first visit we were facing the street on the sixth floor and it was very noisy, but there was a good view of the pyramids. 2nd and 3rd visit, 5th floor in building closest to pool and it was quiet with a view of pyramids and a balcony. Room was cleaner on 2nd and 3rd visit than 1st. As well on first visit, the cleaning staff was there at 7:00 am on day of departure knocking at the door to collect their baksheesh. Weren't too impressed with them, never dumped garbage or gave new supplies, 3/4 roll of toilet paper for 2 days......we'd brought our own so it wasn't an issue.

Breakfast buffet was plentiful, a little difficult to get a cup of coffee but the staff smiled profusely while they bustled around and it was busy for what was supposed to be the slower season. Received a boxed breakfast to go at 2 am day of departure and the hotel had coffee waiting in the lobby for guests. That was a nice touch.

Noise-just on first visit. In Cairo the car horn is used to communicate-constantly and this goes on for all hours of the night. There wasn't much sleeping the first few days, but the sites visited caused so much excitement the adrenalin kicked in. There was a wedding by the pool on our second visit and I only woke up once. Noise wasn't so bad that time that I couldn't get back to sleep.

Bedouin Tent Restaurant-mixed reviews-food is good when you get it, but severely understaffed. The last night we ate here our order was so long in arriving they gave us our tea and dessert free they felt so badly. The mezze is fantastic and a meal in and of itself. Be sure to try the hummus and cheese fatayer-excellent. Beware, the tea served is Nestea.

While the hotel is listed as a five star it is overrated, as were most of the 5 stars we stayed at in Egypt. But there are 5 star hotels, just not as many as listed.
