Nice and neat Hotel. Pretty near the Pyramids. Beautiful poolside rooms and romantic setting for the dinner by the pool: ) The rooms are good and hygienic. Excellent food. The shops in the hotel sells some curios which are rare and good quality. If you can’t walk too long better to request a room near to the reception-Since the rooms we stayed was pretty far…almost a morning jog brings you to the reception! Money changer and internet available. We enjoyed our stay.

Tip:Ask for the room facing the Pool.

I stayed at here for a total of three nights in May and at first, my friends and I were bowled over when we entered - the lobby, decor, swimming pool and grounds are beautiful. But once you step into the rooms, it's a different matter entirely. The rooms were musty and dusty, and the shower heating didn't really work properly. Also, I was appalled to see flies all over the buffet spread during breakfast and dinner. And when you call the concierge for information or requests, they barely understand a word of English. Not what you'd expect of a 5 star hotel!

To make matters worse, my friend and I fell ill from food poisoning (because of food from somewhere else) so we had to go to the 24 hour clinic in the hotel premises. The doctor on duty tried to take our temperatures with a thermometer that he hadn't cleaned! He also gave us anti biotics but I later found out from my own doctor that they weren't! But the worst of all was after we'd paid him and then returned to our rooms, feeling so ill we just wanted to sleep, he had the cheek to wake us up at 2am saying he wanted a change in the US bill we gave him because he said there was a stain on it! I almost lost it at that point.

So in a nutshell, like with many things I've learnt in Egypt, the facade and outside look of this hotel is impressive. But beneath that, it's really a 2 star hotel masquerading as a 5 star one. I would advise you to avoid this hotel.

“Great pool, OK rooms, not so good food”

InterContinental Pyramids Park Resort

3 of 5 stars
Lisbon, Portugal

Overview:
Stayed in IC Pyramids with my wife for 3 nights after a Nile cruise. It's a spacious resort with a HUGE pool (it's best feature), the room was ok (no cleaning problems) but the food and beverage was not so good (maybe I just got unlucky, but a lemon/mint juice cost me dearly in the last evening, for I felt very bad in the airplane and when arriving in Portugal I went to the hospital with a gastroentritis and had to get serum...)

Summarized grades:
Pool: 5 stars
Room: 3 stars
Food and beverage: 2 stars
Personnel: 3 stars
Animation: 0 stars
Location: 3 stars
Price/quality ratio: n/a

Detailed opinion based on personal experience:

Pool - huge and well kept, ideal for those who like to swim instead of just "dipping their behinds"

Room - Been into better ones, but also been into worser! Good area, clean bathroom, but the carpets were needing replacement

F & B - Food was ok (you must be open-minded when visiting exotic countries), nevertheles I preferred the I had in the Nile Cruise better, Furthermore, I had that slight "issue" with the drink on the last evening - a different kind of souvenir, which lasted for some days...

Personnel - Efficient enough, not so nice (if you're expecting a big smile everytime, then sometimes you might be disapointed). But not issues whatsoever, and the old man looking after the "shisha" (or nargileh - the water pipe) was a really nice guy

Animation: none! Or maybe we were too distracted!

Location: I believe it's very hard to have a good location in Cairo, unless there are hotels next to the Giza Pyramids... Nevertheless, the hotel is not in central Cairo, so we couldn't go anywhere on foot (and even if we could, I don't believe it would be a good idea - egyptians were not as sociable and trustworthy as the Turkish or the Tunisians...)

Price/quality ratio: not aplicable because we didn't choose this hotel, it was part of a package. But if I come back to Cairo one day, I believe I will try another hotel.

My husband and I checked in on our first night in Cairo, The façade of the hotel is dull and doesn’t have that hotel look about it, Inside the lobby the reception area was piled high with boxes, had a bulky ugly looking photo copier in plain view and the air conditioning ducts on the ceilings were black with dust. The Staff that checked us in were not very friendly or helpful either.

The Hotel foyer looks like an empty office space with a cork board on the wall that has dozens of messy photo copied pages pinned to it The whole look is very disjointed as if the owners can not decide if they run a Hotel or Office block.

Walking to our room we noticed the grounds around the pool were not well groomed, The pool didn’t appear to be filled to capacity and looks as though it has been retiled many times & rather poorly.

Upon entering our room we discovered we had been given a twin share room rather than a double. After commenting about it to the staff member with us nothing was done to rectify the mistake, By this stage we were to tired to change rooms and decided to settle in for the night. The single bed I was in had a concave mattress and was extremely uncomfortable, The towels in our room were clean but worn, under sized and not up to the Intercontinental brand standard, The T.V was also not up to brand standard. The rooms are also not very well maintained and in need of a refurbishment. The breakfast buffet has the usual hotel fare on offer and is ok.

Our stay at the hotel was extremely disappointing to say the least as the property is an extreme embarrassment to the Intercontinental name. Hopefully the property will be audited soon and de branded so other travelers will not have to tolerate the 1 star conditions.
