Although it takes about 20' to the pyramids and about 1hr to the center of the city of Cairo (due to ever existing traffic jams) this location in the "6th of october"-suburb of Cairo is for sure an excellent location for your stay near Cairo, and you can stay longer than a few days to enjoy the swimming pools without the noise and polution of the city.
A free hotel shuttle takes you to the center of Cairo (near the Egyptian museum) several times a day (when we were there it left the hotel at 10am, 1pm, 6pm) and collects you at the same place.
The same shuttle also takes you to the pyramids. To get back you need to take a taxi (there are a lot of taxis there and it costs about 40 egyptian pounds). There's also a daily bus tour to the nearby media city (Egyptian television studios and outside locations (with fake villages)).
A disadvantage of the location is that there are no shops in the neighbourhood and you need to buy water, ... in the hotel if you don't won't to take a trip to the city.
The hotel is beautiful with lots of pools (more pools than you need - water was a bit cold though this time of the year), very nice big rooms with all the ammenities you need. I also liked the free to use fitness area with jacuzzi.
The restaurant is really excellent. A beautifull breakfast and dinner buffet, showcooking (eggs in the morning, pasta in the evening) at your wish, ... Every day different choices of meat, fish, deserts, salads, ...
The dogs are not running freely any more (see other review).
