It´s a great Hotel to stay, it's far away from Cairo city (1 hour with traffic), but it´s one of the best hotel that we saw in Cairo. This is a resort not a city hotel, but you can stay away from the confusion and the polution that we found at the central Cairo.
If you want to visit Cairo, but you don´t like to stay in the middle of this big city, this is a good choice.
Rooms are very good and clean.
There are 2 mains swimming pools, and pools for children.
The food is good, specially in the marroco's restaurant.
The staff was very nice.
I recommend you.
The location it wasn't a problem because our guide took us to the city when we asked. Take a taxi, but remember you have always to discuss the price.

Locals to visit:
Gize Piramids
Cairo Museum
Nilo
Death city
Khalili (old market)

Although it takes about 20' to the pyramids and about 1hr to the center of the city of Cairo (due to ever existing traffic jams) this location in the "6th of october"-suburb of Cairo is for sure an excellent location for your stay near Cairo, and you can stay longer than a few days to enjoy the swimming pools without the noise and polution of the city.
A free hotel shuttle takes you to the center of Cairo (near the Egyptian museum) several times a day (when we were there it left the hotel at 10am, 1pm, 6pm) and collects you at the same place.
The same shuttle also takes you to the pyramids. To get back you need to take a taxi (there are a lot of taxis there and it costs about 40 egyptian pounds). There's also a daily bus tour to the nearby media city (Egyptian television studios and outside locations (with fake villages)).
A disadvantage of the location is that there are no shops in the neighbourhood and you need to buy water, ... in the hotel if you don't won't to take a trip to the city.
The hotel is beautiful with lots of pools (more pools than you need - water was a bit cold though this time of the year), very nice big rooms with all the ammenities you need. I also liked the free to use fitness area with jacuzzi.
The restaurant is really excellent. A beautifull breakfast and dinner buffet, showcooking (eggs in the morning, pasta in the evening) at your wish, ... Every day different choices of meat, fish, deserts, salads, ...
The dogs are not running freely any more (see other review).

Moevenpick Hotel Cairo - Media City

Movenpick really have to take a long hard look at what's going on in this hotel.

I can only concur with the dog observations made by a previous reviewer. the problem is that money talks - and someone (a Gulf Prince?) is paying Movenpick a lot of money to keep him and his entourage of lackies, cronies and bodyguards in the comfort to which his riches would appear to entitle him. Therefore if you really like looking first-hand at dangerous dogs which in UK would need to be chained up and muzzled (Rottweilers, Pitbulls etc) then this is your chance. As for their droppings - they're everywhere and I don't think the 'minders' that accompany them would take to kindly to being asked to take a plastic bag with them when they went for a walk.....like I said money talks.

Otherwise, hotel only OK. Service OK. No indoor pool, but extensive outdoor ones (unheated). Reasonably clean, vast and in the midde of nowhere. Right next to 'Magic Land' an Egyptian fun park where foreigners stuck out like a sore thumb (but people friendly enough).

My overall view is that, for the price, there will be much better hotels than this even in 6 October City, let alone the rest of Cairo, and Ithat this is certainly not a hotel for children.

Movenpick's internal quality assurance sytem has seriously failed here.

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. There are dogs kept on the complex that are walked at the pool area off of leads where children are playing. the dogs were allowed to foul the grass and it was left. The service is terrible and the food cold. this hotel is not up to movenpick standards.
