“The worst hotel I have ever been”

Cataract Pyramids Resort

This is probably one of the worst hotels in the world. Even though is rated 5 stars (probably by paying a bribe to the Egypts Dept of Tourism) is worth 2 stars at the most. Customer service doesn't exist at all at this place. The hotel is totally infested with mosquitos. When we complained they brough a can of Raids. We had to request to change the room after the 1st night. At the new room the toilet leaked and the bathroom was flooded all the time. We asked to fix it but nobody cared. There are 2 restaurants that we ate at the resort and we both got sick. The place is secluded in Giza and there is nothing in the area to go to, so basically we were stuck there unless we wanted a taxi. When we arrived the 1st night they say they didn't have our reservation the we made through Expedia. I had to pay for our stay there. When we came back I realized that I paid twice, once through Expedia and once at the hotel. Now I'm fighting to get my money back.

“Definitely not a five star”

Cataract Pyramids Resort

30 May 2008

The agency where we booked our trip told us this was a five star hotel. This is far from the thruth.

The hotel is big, has several restaurants, spa and a pool.

The rooms were dusty and old, the sheets were transparent and you could see the print on the matress. the tv is very small and has only two channels.

The bathrooms- are the worst I've ever seen in my life, yellow dirt accumulated in toilet and shower.

The pool is ok, restaurants are cheap and food is ok. Breakfast buffet is ok.

I had to sleep with repellent on, as I had many mosquitos inside my room.

Overall I don't recommend

“Worst Day of my life!!”

Cataract Pyramids Resort

13 May 2008

I had my Wedding at the Cataract Pyramid Resort on the 1st of May and it was the biggest mistake of my life.

The hotel is old, out of date, dirty.

Staff are Incompetent, unhelpful, rude and will steal from you if you are not careful.

Food is awful, i had to make my own scrambled eggs for breakfast as there were no staff to do it. Dont bother ordering from room service they dont have anything available.

Wedding was a disaster from start to finish, all down to the hotel. My husbands wedding ring was stolen by the bar staff. The chocolate fountain was broken by the hotel staff. The wedding cake was not edible, and was just for show???... why i dont know?

We got ripped off and overcharged at every turn.

I would not recommend this hotel to a Cockroach.......

We were booked into this hotel for three nights as part of a package. Most of the group had rooms facing the pool area - which was lovely - until dusk when the mosquitoes are out en masse. The facility regularly fogs the place with unknown pesticides so people should be made aware of this. Rooms were adequate (Best Western quality), very dimly lit and came with the can of Raid that we'd read about. Almost everyone in the group was bitten by mosquitoes either during dinner (we dined outdoors) or in the room while asleep (bring your own insect repellent). Our biggest complaint was that the hotel is quite popular for weddings and, for the three nights we were there, we were subjected to nightly wedding music blasting away from 8:00 p.m. 'til midnight - not a good thing when everyone is jet-lagged and trying to get some sleep for early morning outings to the pyramids and various sights.

The hotel is located in a not-so-convenient area outside of town supposedly mid-way to Memphis and Giza. If you've got one day of "down" time, there is nothing nearby to do except to go to the desk and ask them to arrange for a driver to take you into town to see Cairo. Food at the hotel is so-so but one should not expect to find the same quality that we're used to at home.
