We enjoyed the delicious Christmas Buffet in one of Nairobis very few historical settings. The service was outstanding. I have been to many places in Africa but this was by far the best ever service. I explicitly want to mention our waiters Everestus and Barbara who made us feel like in heaven. A great treat for Xmas. I will definitely come back and recommend it further !
Make sure you check out the historical message board, the old stock market and....well just about every small detail.

We ended our trip to Africa with a night at the Stanley and dinner at Thai Chi. The food was great and the service was even better. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I recently had lunch at the Thai Chi at the invitation of a couple of Kenyan friends. I'm glad that I picked up the tab at the end, because when I looked at it after I had paid I was surprised how high it was. One doesn't expect such a restaurant in a top international hotel to be cheap, and the quality was very good. Nevertheless, the final total for four people for lunch, with only soft drinks, four main courses and two desserts to share, came to over 18,000 Kenyan shillings, or USD200. One of my friends left some cash for service. Fine for the well heeled international traveller, and maybe the Kenyan elite, but definitely not good value for money. The previous evening we had taken two other friends to dinner at Amaika, which serves excellent African style food, and the bill came to less than half that, though it included pre-dinner alcoholic drinks and a bottle of South African wine.

I have not been to the Thai Chi Restaurant for almost a year as I always dread the traffic from Upperhill to the Stanley. However, after being back there tonight, I will definitely go through the trouble again for a treat. The crispy duck and jasmine rice is definitely a winner. The ambiance is also lovely. Great cuppacino with a wafer thin fortune cookie to end it off. Go and try it yourself. The only downside is that it is on the expensive side.
