Abyssinia offers a wide range of Ethiopian cuisine, which I had never tried before so I was keen to try something new and exciting! The setting is very rustic and relaxed - something which I personally enjoy. It's an awesome place to go with a group of friends as it is unpretentious and very chilled. There were 3 of us so we ordered a combo meal - it was the meat meal (can't remember the exact name) and we ordered it with beef. It really was an experience when the waitress arrived with a massive round pancake with an array of interesting toppings on top - there was a chickpea concoction (similar texture to hummus), chicken, beef, mince, lentils and kale - enough to feed an army, especially seeing as though you also get a tray of the pancakes to eat it with. It was really fun using the pancake to eat the meal (as I said, a new experience for me) and it was nice having different toppings so you could get a bit of everything. As one who enjoys spicy food, I really loved the flavours of the toppings. The pancakes were light and fluffy, but I personally found them a bit sour and after a few I resorted to eating straight from the middle without them. The price was very reasonable for the portion of food that was received - we didn't finish our plate but were definitely full and satisfied when we left.

All my favorites in good-sized portions and at a reasonable price (and sans tummy bugs). They will box up your leftovers. Nice sitting area outside.

Abyssinia is by far the best Ethiopian restaurant in Nairobi. The food is authentic and very delicious. I don't eat spicy (hot) food and so I ordered my food mild. I was a little worried that I would miss out on the true taste of Ethiopian food, but to my surprise the food was very tasty. The ambience isn't all that - the restaurant has a very basic decor and not much thought has been put into "acculturating" the place, however, this is not a big deal. The food makes up for everything else.

This restaurant doesnt has fancy furniture nor shiny looking decorations, it focusses on the important stuff. Service and Food. In and outside dining possible. The food is just freshly prepared and the service just awesome. The spices are well regulated to assure a pleasant food experience. It doesnt seem to be in Nairobi but directly somewhere in Ethiopia. A must for every lover of ethiopian food.

We went to their 2nd restaurant in Ring Rd Kilimani which is newer than Westlands. It is excellent with spacious seating, great service and the food just as you would expect from Ethiopia. They were also building rooms within the compound, so sounds a good place to stay as they were attentive, polite and nothing was too much. Highly recommendable!!!
