I booked our safari, 2 nights 3 days staying at the Mara Intrepids Camp Site in the Masia Mara with Mics Safaris on the internet. I had read great reviews about MICS on Tripadviser and there costs were comparable to other operators. I paid a 30% deposit by bank transfer with the balance to be paid in Kenya before the safari took place. We arrived at the Voyager Beach Hotel on Tuesday 17 July 2007 and it was arranged with Peter (MICS Safaris) that I would meet him the next day at 5pm to pay the balance for the safari cost. I paid Peter the balance using a credit card and this was all done electronically, very efficient, received the credit card receipt and the detailed receipt from Peter. On Thursday evening I received a phone call from MICS to confirm the pick up time for the next morning. A different Peter was there on time (6.45am) and transported us to the airport for our 8am flight to the Masia Mara. The flight takes approx 2 hours, we were the third stop. On arrival at our airstrip we were collected by a four by four jeep and transported to the camp site, this took approx 2 minutes. This was a lovely camp site and every thing was excellent, from the chilled orange juice drink on arrival to the two lovely tents with four poster beds, to our brilliant driver Simon, to the wonderful food. I have to mention Emily the waitress, she was lovely. She discovered on our first day at lunchtime that our son liked garlic bread and at our evening meal that night, although not on the menu, Emily brought my son some garlic bread. I thought that was excellent service. We stayed in tents numbered 29 and 30. These are the furtherest from the bar and restuarant but they are right at the fence. My daughter heard a noise in the middle of the night and opened the tent and on the far side of the fence an elephant was looking at her. I also booked a balloon safari with MICS, this was well organised, the receptionist at the camp site told us the time we needed to rise at (we got hot chocolate and coffee as our alarm call), a driver was there to transport us to the balloon safari location and afterwards to return us to the camp site. The balloon safari took off from Little Govenors camp site, which is quite far from Mara Intrepids. We had to rise at 3.45am for pick up at 4.15am and the balloon takes off at 6.30am. I think if I was going to do this again I would stay in Govenors for the night before the balloon safari and then move to the Mara Intrepids. The balloon ride lasted approx one hour and when back on the ground we were transported by jeep to an area called Fig Tree, right on the banks of the Mara River for a champagne breakfast. This consisted of warm bacon, sausages, scrambled egg, french toast etc. It was lovely and a beautiful setting. The driver took us on a two hour game drive before taking us back to Little Govenors to collect our driver to take us back to Mara Intrepids. On return to Mombasa our driver Peter was awaiting us at the airport to transport us to our hotel. All in all this was a wonderful well organised trip, everything went like clockwork and I would definitely recommend MICS Safaris. If you are worried about the safety of booking a safari over the internet, do not worry everything could not have been better and there were absolutely no problems.
