I cannot say enough great things about my experience at Mara Intrepids. I knew that I wanted to stay in a tented camp, and I knew that my mother (with whom I was traveling) would require a fenced camp in order to feel comfortable. Mara Intrepids fit the bill.

The "tents" are really luxury rooms with canvas walls. The granite bathrooms and teak floors were much nicer than my house at home. The food was the best we had in Africa, especially the presentation. They clearly have a chef that has trained at some of the best restaurants because the dinners and presentation were comparable to a fine restaurant in any major city.

We booked through Antony at Kenya Wildlife Safaris but our driver, Aggrey, was employed by Intrepids. We were paired up with a FANTASTIC British couple that made our trip even better than it already was. We were in open-air Land Rovers so we could take tons of great pictures very easily. Our driver was totally knowledgeable, and we saw tons and tons of animals up close.... very, very close.

Intrepids also employees a couple of Masai that are there to answer any questions you might have about their culture. It made our trip much richer to get their perspective on tourism.

I did a lot of research before booking the voyager hotel as our main hotel and flying into the Masai Mara for 3 nights at the Mara intrepids which are both owned by the same hotel group and boy it was worth it !
From the time we landed to the time we left we were treated like royalty with a genuine warmth that we found to be quite infectious.
We were put in on of the new tents and they are fantastic with a view over the Mara river.
The food was superb with " Freddy " the head chef producing a 5 course evening meal and service that would not be out of place in a top London restaurant.
The game drives were in a 4 seat-er land rover which had open sides and was driven by " Joseph " who took us to see the most fabulous sights i will ever see!!
Cats were the main reason i chose the Mara and not only did we see them but we sat amongst them as if we were part of the family with Cheetahs circling our jeep , a leopard sitting in a tree just above our heads, spending time with a fully grown lion and his 4 females sunbathing on their backs whilst we sat within touching distance of them . WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These were just a few of the times we sat with the Cats and it made us feel quite emotional to realise one of our ambitions.
All in all we saw the big 5 , family of elephants playing with the baby ones in the mud etc. I could go on and on as every time we went on a drive we were treated to something special !
I would like to thank David ( The manager ) ,Boniface (assistant manager )," Francis " our waiter , Freddy , Joseph and all of the staff who gave us a 25th wedding anniversary of a lifetime.

I booked our safari, 2 nights 3 days staying at the Mara Intrepids Camp Site in the Masia Mara with Mics Safaris on the internet. I had read great reviews about MICS on Tripadviser and there costs were comparable to other operators. I paid a 30% deposit by bank transfer with the balance to be paid in Kenya before the safari took place. We arrived at the Voyager Beach Hotel on Tuesday 17 July 2007 and it was arranged with Peter (MICS Safaris) that I would meet him the next day at 5pm to pay the balance for the safari cost. I paid Peter the balance using a credit card and this was all done electronically, very efficient, received the credit card receipt and the detailed receipt from Peter. On Thursday evening I received a phone call from MICS to confirm the pick up time for the next morning. A different Peter was there on time (6.45am) and transported us to the airport for our 8am flight to the Masia Mara. The flight takes approx 2 hours, we were the third stop. On arrival at our airstrip we were collected by a four by four jeep and transported to the camp site, this took approx 2 minutes. This was a lovely camp site and every thing was excellent, from the chilled orange juice drink on arrival to the two lovely tents with four poster beds, to our brilliant driver Simon, to the wonderful food. I have to mention Emily the waitress, she was lovely. She discovered on our first day at lunchtime that our son liked garlic bread and at our evening meal that night, although not on the menu, Emily brought my son some garlic bread. I thought that was excellent service. We stayed in tents numbered 29 and 30. These are the furtherest from the bar and restuarant but they are right at the fence. My daughter heard a noise in the middle of the night and opened the tent and on the far side of the fence an elephant was looking at her. I also booked a balloon safari with MICS, this was well organised, the receptionist at the camp site told us the time we needed to rise at (we got hot chocolate and coffee as our alarm call), a driver was there to transport us to the balloon safari location and afterwards to return us to the camp site. The balloon safari took off from Little Govenors camp site, which is quite far from Mara Intrepids. We had to rise at 3.45am for pick up at 4.15am and the balloon takes off at 6.30am. I think if I was going to do this again I would stay in Govenors for the night before the balloon safari and then move to the Mara Intrepids. The balloon ride lasted approx one hour and when back on the ground we were transported by jeep to an area called Fig Tree, right on the banks of the Mara River for a champagne breakfast. This consisted of warm bacon, sausages, scrambled egg, french toast etc. It was lovely and a beautiful setting. The driver took us on a two hour game drive before taking us back to Little Govenors to collect our driver to take us back to Mara Intrepids. On return to Mombasa our driver Peter was awaiting us at the airport to transport us to our hotel. All in all this was a wonderful well organised trip, everything went like clockwork and I would definitely recommend MICS Safaris. If you are worried about the safety of booking a safari over the internet, do not worry everything could not have been better and there were absolutely no problems.

I stayed here in December, taking a break for a weekend from work in Nairobi and I really loved the place. The facilities were fantastic but more importantly, the staff were wonderful, so helpful and friendly. Paul and James, the guides that I had made the experience all the better as they were so knowledgeable.
The food was great as well, really varied.

I took this trip by myself and as a female, was a bit worried about my safety etc. if I had gone on a camping safari but staying in the lodge, I felt really safe and would recommend this place to anyone travelling alone.

We have just stayed at Intrepids for the third time and we are never disappointed. David, the manager and all of his staff welcomed us back like family. While we were there, staff were finishing building new tents which we were shown. We can highly recommend staying at Intrepids. The food was excellent but most importantly, the guides and vehicles gave us the best chance of seeing wildlife and made our safari one to remember.

Due to the heavy rains, wildlife viewing was a challenge but our guide met the challenge and we were lucky enough to have Kike from Big Cat Diary on our bonnet (for the second time).
