We stayed here on the 06th April 2012 for one week (not long enough!!) On arrival we were greeted with much need cold drinks and warm face towels! The hospitality is excellent and service is quality! Our first room garden view superior was good. we were greeted by lots of tiny butterflies (what i would call moths!) but the room service had it sorted within a matter of 10minutes. Room was comfortable, cool and kept very clean! I would agree with other reviews and say the rooms do need an upgrade just to match the quality of the rest of the hotel. I understand that renovations of rooms are planned over the next year! Please dont be put off by this the rooms are good just dated! The hotel is massive and we spent most of ouur first day emploring the grounds, beach, swimming pools, bars etc. lots to do on site including pool, darts, 3 swimming areas, water sports, drinking, vollyball, table tennis and although we didnt take children I heard many great reports about the childrens entertainment and activities. We arrived in time for luck on our first day! WOW not what we expected at all. everything you can imagine was available, soups, breads, pastry, rice, omlette, pasta, noodels, all kinds of meats, curries, salads, deserts etc etc etc and this was only lunch! Would have liked to have seen more cold options been a typical english sandwhich lover! (can't beat a good sanwhich on a hot day). We also went for a walk tot he local shop on our first day which was a good 30min walk but gave us a real taste of the local area, it was a little intimidating in parts and be prepared to see children begging for money. We wish we'd have packed less clothes and taken more things to give like footballs, t-shirts, books, pencils etc if you have any room in your case please do it!!
Breakfast was immense again anything you wanted was served, full english, cereal, omlette, pastry, toast etc etc etc The pools are excellent we spent most of our time by the infinity pool watching the beach boys trade, tides roll in and out and people having the time of their lifes! We also enjoyed time around the fun pool were there is lots of welcome shade. The sports pool was fab for a dip too and close tot he snack bar.
The beach is gorgeous, lots of seaweed at times but staff clean the beach each morning getting rid of unwanted washed up seaweed. The beach boys are out to make a living and are very good at their jobs. some of them only earn one sale in a 10-5 day which they do use to provide for their families. Our rep was a local his self and could tell us they were genuine people. Take nail varnish, t-shirts, shorts, footballs etc etc to trade and dont take their first offer you should be able to get 10-30% off from the first offer. we got some beutiful giraffes and carvings to take home with us at very resonable prices. Our 3rd-5th days were spent on safari (reviewed seperatly)
on returning to the hotel we had picked to upgrade to a seaview and if we were to go back we would book a seaview for the whole stay. rooms are much of the same quality as the garden view but the view was excellent! Perfect! We packed some 3 in 1 nescafe coffee and i will never forget the feeling of drinking my nescafe on the balcony watching the sun rise Bliss!
The bars and bar staff are excellent. they only thing we'd suggest is more options for cocktails and wine etc to be stored in a cold place as it is out of the box!
We booked snorklling with the hotel and went out to see the coarl, star fish and sealife, fab experience but very tiring as the sea was rough!
The entertainment was authentic local treats each night we saw salsa, circus acts, dancing, acrobatics, singing etc etc! Not much happens after the entertainment has finished and we would have liked to have seen the guests let go a little bit and get in the party spirit (i suppose thats our typicall english selves again lol)
Our travel agents told us their would be building work whilst we were there but we saw no distruption at all so dont be put off.
Our holiday was simply perfect and quiet life changing experiencing the poverty and lack of wanting in the country! I never thought i'd ever want to return to the same place and do it all again but I can see that place been very addictive! We cant wait to return!
Tips-High factor sun cream!!
-We saw no mosquitos but its better to be safe than sorry
- tip on your last day and remeber who you would like to tip. find out their days off so you dont miss out on tipping someone who's really helped you.
-dont make promises to the beach boys as they will remember if you say your going back wednesday they'll remind you of it every day if they see you. Just be firm but polite and tell them when you'll be buying and be honest if your not going to buy tell them and they'll leave you alone.
-Haller park is worth a trip 3 hours and a taxi it was a fantasic place! (reviewed seperatly)
-Take Shillings and English money. we used english at the airport to pay visas and spent skilling the rest of the time! No Need for euros!
-Be prepared to feel like you've met a new little family and have the time of your life!!
Sea View! Bliss!
