One can spend a whole day wandering around the grounds of the old military factories now turned studios and galleries. Soho boutiques and eateries/cafes add to its charm and bohemian atmosphere. If you've been to and like what you saw at M50/Moganshan in Shanghai, this place will blow you away.
There's both contemporary and traditional art to experience. Didn't get to all the galleries but really enjoyed the well curated exhibits at UCCA (Ullens Centre for Contemporary Arts) and the first-rate service at Baiyaxuan gallery. The well-informed gallery assistants were generous with their time and in sharing their knowledge.
Can be difficult finding a cab when leaving. Best to allow for some extra time and/or be prepared to take the bus and metro.
