We recently stayed at the HK Sheraton for 2 nights May 24-26, 2008 using Starwood points and had a room on the Executive Level. Here are the pros and cons:

PROS
1. The location is great if you want to be on the Kowloon side. The TST subway stop is right there, the Star Ferry is about a 10 minute walk away and the Sheraton is on Nathan Rd.
2. The workout facility is on one of the top floors and has the most amazing views of the HK Harbor. The gym equipment is new and kept very clean.
3. The toiletries in the room were by Etro (upscale Italian line) and were plentiful.
4. The room was small but well appointed with good reading lights, TV, fax machine, etc..

CONS
1. The hotel's decor is an 80's style and seems dated and vaguely depressing. There is lots of shiny brass, dark blue carpeting, low ceilings, etc... If you see their dining room on the top floor, you will know what I mean.
2. I specifically requested a non-smoking room and somehow got put on a smoking floor. (You can see in the elevator which floors are designated as non-smoking.) Our hallway noticeably smelled like stale cigarette smoke although our room smelled ok.
3. The concierge lady in the Exec. Level lounge was rude and unhelpful. I logged onto the free terminal to check in for my flight and then noticed that there was no printer on which to print my boarding pass. I asked if I could print the pass to her printer sitting on her desk. She curtly told me no and to go to the Business Center (18 floors away) if I needed to do that. In addition to not being happy about her attitude, I think that it is pretty common nowadays for travelers to want to print out their Boarding Pass and the Sheraton's Executive Level lounge should be equipped to handle this.
4. The Bell Captain Desk pretended not to know the times for the Airport Shuttle Bus, I guess so we'd have to take a taxi to the Kowloon Airport Shuttle Rail Station (and therefore grease the wheels of the Sheraton bellmen/taxi guys relationship). I am pretty sure that there is a schedule for the Airport Shuttle Bus Stop next to the Sheraton. We stayed at the JW Marriott in HK a week before in our trip and they knew the times of their bus stop schedule. Just sayin'.
5. This is not the hotel's fault but directly outside the doors on Nathan Rd. are a multitude of Indian men aggressively hawking you to come with them to see "copy watches", purses, DVD's etc... Some men even tugged on our shirtsleeves and followed us down the street. It was irritating and made the general area near the Sheraton seem downmarket, cheap and tacky. We did not experience this kind of behavior over in Central (other side of Harbor).

All in all, it was a "free stay" so I really should not complain but if I had paid to stay at the HK Sheraton, I would be a little annoyed. It would not have been good value for money. Also, I much prefer the HK side to the Kowloon side.

“Not for us”

We checked in to our premier deluxe harbour view tower room on Sunday night and checked out on Tuesday morning. The staff were very nice and the club floor dining room was also very nice, but the smell of stale cigarettes on our pillow and the rock hard bed drove us out.

We stayed at the Sheraton Hong Kong for business. It's a decent enough place (not great - not terrible) on the whole, but how a contemporary hotel can exist without wireless Internet access is beyond me. They do provide a wired ethernet service -- but be aware you will need to pay extra for it (at a premium hotel)! The lack of Wi Fi is especially troubling since both their website and the person checking us in indicated it was available. We will not be staying at the Sheraton again and I hope that any visitors requiring wireless will reconsider.

Again, overall the place is clean with smallish rooms with a contemporary feel. But the lack of wireless makes this a non-starter for me (and I suspect it will be the same for many of you). Making the whole thing even more frustrated is that you will be able to pick up the network of the neighboring hotels. However, without the proper password you are SOL.

We just stayed six nights at the Sheraton in Hong Kong. Firstly, the positive - the location is good - close to both the MTR and the Star Ferry for easy access to the main island.

To be honest, we were very disappointed with this hotel overall and don't consider it a five star experience.

The ceilings are so low that I could touch the ceiling (and I am only 5 feet 7 inches!), the room is very small (reall only suitable for one person, the bathroom is tiny (and there is a glass wall through to the bedroom (although there is a blind this is a bit off putting).

We had a harbour view room, which was quite obscured by the Intercontinental and not really worth the extra money.

The breakfast was average - tea and coffee was appalling and served in horrible stoneware mugs. Breakfast was very much a hustle & bustle and a bit 'smorgys' for those Melburnians!

When a loaned adapter blew a fuse we got in trouble for using our hair dryer, which was rated to be used at the local 220 voltage and although we have never had any problems in any other hotel in the world. It was a bit off puttng to have someone telling you off in your room!

Really, we regretted not staying at the Shangri-La Kowloon where we stayed in October which is a magnificent hotel.

If this was a four star hotel with rates to match, you may not be so dissappointed, but next time we will be staying elsewhere.

Transiting Hong Kong for the US, we got stuck due to cancellation of flights. We decided to make the most of it and did a 2 night 3 day tour of Hong Kong. Hitting the highlights, from the Sheraton, which is in Kowloon, we walked to McDonalds for breakfast (we have a 7 year old) and then to the ferry terminal (15 minute walk) and took the ferry to Hong Kong Island. The ferry costs about .50 cents per adult and kids are even cheaper. Upon arrival on the other side, we walked our way to The Peak tram (they do not take credit cards for the tram); it's about $5 per adult and half for kids. Going to the top is a very worthwhile trip with unforgettable views of the city and the peninsula. You don't need to buy the special Sky Terrace pass, which is about $2 more; you won't be missing anything special. Although, having a small meal or drinks up at the restaurants look like they might be worthwhile since the views are spectacular from there. There's even a Burger King up there. At the top, there's a tourist help center that is helpful with directions for when you get back down. We asked for directions to "the worlds longest moving walkway" and once we got back down, took a one-way bus ride to find it. Can't remember what stop it was. Taking the walkway leads you to SoHo. It's kind of a tourist trap in terms of restaurants but we ended up eating at a local Italian place...pizza and pasta. After lunch, we walked back to the ferry stop and back to Kowloon. Once in Kowloon, we bought bus tickets to find our way to the "Ladies shopping area". It's depicted on the tour maps. Basically, it's outdoor shopping with over a 100 vendors. You must bargain there. If it's Made in China, you can find it there. Afterwards, we took a bus back to the Sheraton for a quick break and then in the evening, went back out to the "men's shopping" area. It's similar to the ladies market. We walked there via the Kowloon park (very nice park in the middle of the city---incredible pool). The men's shopping is about half way between the hotel and the ladies shopping. In the evening at 8 pm, the highrises do a light show that you can see from the top of the Sheraton or from the harbour across the street. We chose to go out and see it from the harbour. It's literally right across the street. The lightshow sounds better on paper than it actually is (they really could have made it so much more), but the skyline of Hong Kong Island is really something to see, at night.
Going back to the airport, you can take bus A21 across the street and about a block from the hotel. it takes one hour and is about $2 per adult. We took a taxi to get into Tsim Tsa Tsui, where Sheraton is located and that was about $40 and a half our, without traffic.
