This hotel is brand new – so new in fact that most taxi drivers have not even heard of the place, nor have some of the locals who have lived there for more than 20 years! Situated in Sheung Wan (to the left of Admiralty), close to the Macau Ferry Terminal on Hong Kong Island, this new gem is certainly a pleasant surprise! I agree with some other reviews in that calling it 5-star is a little over the top, but it is definitely like no other Courtyard out there!

The shuttle bus from Hong Kong airport to this hotel costs $HK140 per person one way (we found this the most economical and hassle free with 4 people since we had a lot of luggage). Usually there are a number of hotels on the way, but for us luckily we were the first stop. First impressions are less than satisfactory – with the driveway an awkward angle off a small street in front of a local bus stop. The lobby is unimpressive (small and literally has one couch, 3 check-in desks which were never fully utilised, a small takeaway cafe store I never saw open and concierge). We checked in twice to this hotel, the first time was a breeze and all requests were honoured (interconnecting, non-smoking rooms on high floors). But the second time took a very long time (for some reason there was only 1 desk open and she was very inexperienced).

Rooms are small, but very resourceful. Everything is new and chic. The most unusual feature is the wall between the room and the toilet – it is glass! So if you stay in the room alone, you could use the toilet with a view! Electric blinds (both shades and blackouts) make it effortless – although why wasn’t this technology implemented in the window that separates the room with the toilet? Toilet amenities include shaving kit, toothbrush, sewing kit, and the usual sanitary bags and shower caps. A great feature is that new scales are provided in each room to weight yourself (or more importantly, luggage). Cables are provided so you can connect a laptop or camcorder device to the large flat screen LCD TV. The shower is good with a choice of handheld or rainforest head. Although switching between the 2 showerheads gives the guest a mighty freeze for a split second as the water becomes warm – beware! The beds were very very comfortable (being new and all) and the pillows very supportive.

Slippers are also provided (and good quality as well!), and the phone system is nice and new (one button to operator – no more various buttons to various departments). Local calls from the in-room phone to Hong Kong are $HK5 for the first 30 minutes, which is great to know. The hotel also provides a free shuttle service for guests in the morning (weekday and weekend itinerary differs), and goes as far as Wan Chai. Bus stop is right outside the hotel (with services to the airport and Causeway bay), or the tram stop is on the next street which can take you to the Sheung Wan MTR station and beyond. If you need to take a taxi, make sure you bring the address of the hotel (e.g. on your room card envelope or a hotel-branded note paper – we found this very helpful!) There was a pretty good eatery about 5 minutes walk from the hotel for a nice bowl of noodles which was very cheap and good for supper!

The view of the harbour is quite nice – you can see (on a good day) Kowloon and beyond, and the Macau boats coming into the harbour. We didn’t get to stay on the city view facing side, but those rooms are cheaper. Our rate included breakfast at MoMo Cafe on level 2 every morning. This was satisfactory although quite expensive (I wouldn’t pay the price it was asking). There was barely anybody there every morning. Waffles are quite nice – there is also fruit juice, yoghurt, toast, salads, dim sum (including sticky rice), Chinese porridge and the traditional English breakfast stuff – but since the turnover was low, the quality was lacking. Service was also quite mediocre – even though there were so few people they seemed to be more occupied in their own conversations. Tea also apparently meant 1 teabag in a whole pot of hot water for 15 seconds on one morning – we basically got slightly coloured water to drink.

As with all Marriott hotels, it’s better if you can book through the official Marriott reservation system online, then find a cheaper rate from a legitimate website with the same room type within 24-hours – Marriott, upon assessing the case, may not only match the cheap price, but also beat it by 25%, and you then qualify for all of the points for Marriott. Expedia is often quite cheap, and this is one website which Marriott will honour for price matching.

A very new property to the West of Central. Location seemed a little remote until we were actually there – it is a slice of old HK with many small shopfronts and eating places around it. Well connected by tram and bus routes so getting to the main areas like Central, Sheung Wan, Western Market etc isn’t a problem, and it is near the new Harbour crossing so a 10-min bus ride takes you to Jordan/Mong Kok.

The room was sleek/modern and very comfortable in all aspects, and even though it wasn’t huge, the windows made it very bright/airy looking. Nice big shower area with strong water pressure and a great rainforest shower. High quality fittings etc like the comfy king-size bed, fluffy towels and bathrobes, and good quality bedroom slippers (not the throw-away paper type).

The concierge (notably Jimmy and Mabel) was very helpful in keeping us well-fed throughout, making good recommendations and generally being very efficient and polite. However, the phone system was somewhat cryptic, with no clear instruction on or around the phone, so we had some trouble finding out how to reach the front desk. Management should look into this aspect and save dumb travelers like me some headache.

Top marks for this place, definitely great value for money.

Put simply, all the great reviews about this hotel ring true.
Staff: Check-in was done quickly and the staff were very friendly. The staff were also equally professional in the Momo Cafe where we had dinner (N.,B. the service stops at 11.30pm but you can get 24 hour room service from a similar menu).
Food: The food in the Momo Cafe was very good and great value for money (especially considering it's a hotel restaurant). If there was any downside, the food seemed to come very quickly and the mains came out while we were still eating the entrees. That said, I'd prefer them too early than too late...
Room: Very clean and modern and the bed is very comfortable. Just a tip: the bathroom is separated by a window which we at first thought was a bit strange but then realised there is a blind so have a look for it.
Location: Some of the reviews make a negative claim about the location but we were very happy. While it's not in the most glamorous location, you can take the courtesy bus to Central where you're right in the spot to head to Kowloon or the Hong Kong Island spots. If you're too early or late for the courtesy bus (we were), a taxi is usually waiting at the front of the hotel to take you to Central for around HKD 25-30 and takes about 10 minutes.
In summary, very good value and 9/10. I will stay here when I return to HK.

This is a very unique and different Courtyard. I used them very often in the US, but this one has almost Marriott quality at Courtyard price. I booked my room thru Marriott.com 2 month ahead. We stayed for 6 night at HK $850. per night in which is a good price in HK. We have a semi harbour view as was explain to us by the front desk clerk in the 20th floor.

We took the airport express to the Hong Kong Station and then a taxi to the hotel in which we paid around HK $35 including luggage for the taxi. What we found out that you could take a airbus bus just across the hotel for HK $35 and will take around 30 minutes back to the airport. (that is the bus that the local use).

This is a new hotel. Everything is still new. The hotel is located close to the Kennedy house area or the west side of central. A lot of buses, tram and taxi by the hotel. The hotel is located Connaught Road, Water Street and DexVoeux Road West, where you could take the tram to anywhere in HK for $2 (USD $0.27) or you could take a free shuttle from the hotel to central and other 4 stop. The shuttle run every 30 minutes until 6:00 am- 10:00 M-F and every hour from 10:00am - 4:00 pm.

For food you could walk toward DexVoeux street make a right and you will find Circle K (fresh baked goods) and 7/11. If you continuing walking for around 2 block you will find Cafe del Corral a very inexpensive "HK Style fast food" or if you walk 2 block up on Water until Queen West and make a right you will see a tons of place to eat including McD, KFC, noddles shop, dim sum and restaurant 24 hours and HK Bakeries.

See pictures for the room. Its easier to explain. Complimentary Shoe Shines available.

A very new, modern, clean, and well apponted property, with excellent staff. We recommend buying the Executive room package. The hotel is a little out of the way, but they have a shuttle that runs every 30 minutes to mass trans central. Get a hotel directions card, as it isso new that taxis don't know it! Special thanks to concierge, Mable, for going above and beyond to help us before, during & after our trip to HK!
