Room: Stayed in a Pool View Senior Executive room. I had a butler button in my room. When my blow dryer broke the concierge spent a couple hours driving around trying to find one for me. I wasn’t expecting turn down service so it startled me to go into my room and have things straightened and relaxing music playing in the background. I really liked the bathroom. It felt really big.

Check-in: The previous reviewer mentioned the interesting check-in. When I first walked in I couldn’t figure out where to go. I saw two tables with laptops and the people motioned for me to come over. Very interesting. It sets the tone for the rest of the hotel. Very unobtrusive.

Food: The food (I had seafood) was very good. We at ate at the Jakarta Restaurant every night. I love fresh squeezed fruit and they had plenty of it.

Pool: The pool we used (I saw two pools outside but only used one) was absolutely beautiful. Unlike any I’ve seen before. It was in the shape of a C with an island in the middle with trees on it. And I’m not sure how they treat the water because it was the perfect temperature and it seemed fresh (not chlorinated). The pool boys are very eager to help but sometimes I don’t think they knew what to do… that they didn’t seem comfortable simply walking up to a guest and asking for a refill/food/towel, etc. But if you got their attention they were quick to help. I must have ordered 5 fresh fruit drinks over the course of the day and those aren’t on the pool menu. They would go to the restaurant and have them made for me. The loungers were comfortable.

The complex consists of two buildings: The hotel and the Bimasena Club. They were separated by the pool I described above. The Bimasena Club houses the Gym and Spa.

Gym: Probably the nicest gym I have seen (whether it be in a hotel or a gym). The equipment was surprisingly good for a hotel. It also has an infinity pool and tub/pool that “leaves” the side of the building. The pictures don’t do it justice.

Spa: Very clean and great selection of treatments. For about US $100 I received multiple treatments. I didn’t have any money on me which I regret. I tipped each person very generously via my credit card but I often worry when I travel internationally that the money won’t get back to the person.

Safety: There is a high fence around the hotel and security (including metal detectors).

Activities: I was there on business so we didn’t have a chance to do anything outside the hotel. We did go to a high-end mall in Jakarta and although it doesn’t look like much from the outside it was very nice on the inside.

I have traveled extensively and this was one of my favorite hotels. It felt like an oasis. I hate to be so positive because if somebody goes with very high expectations it may not live up. But I would go back in a heartbeat.

I stayed two nights at The Dharmawangsa on a business trip, everything was simply picture prefect, except for two very small mishaps, that by the end was turned into an advantage for me.
I onlt had breakfast one morning, and then i was in a real hurry, however it seemed quite ok. The gym, the pool, the butler service, the check out (I had to leave at 04.45), was excellent - they even made me a very nice light breakfast. I ate at the japanese resturant, very nice meal indeed, it was in fact an very enjoyable dinner, service was just good.
I had a good chocolate martini (got it for free, since they made the mistake to use Smirnoff, instead of real Vodka) . I had a lengthy and hatwarm talk with the old man who was playing in the lobby, since he heard of my interest in gambalan and Sundanese music. It was my first visit to Jakarta, The Dharmawangsa has a great share in Im already coming back in January for longer stay.
The Dharmawangsa has a nice decor and setting, smooth and welcoming - this is a wonderful place

Simply stunning. This was my first time to Jakarta and I was a little bit taken in by the stories that you hear. So it was a very pleasant surprise to be met by a member of staff from the hotel, pretty much from the gangway off the plane. The hotel rep took me through customs and immigration without the lengthy queue so that was excellent. He even helped the customs team ignore that additional bottle of wine that I bought at Changi by mistake...oops.

Arrival at the hotel was eagerly anticipated, especially after the traffic jammed ride through the hustle of Jakarta. Such a beautiful site and any concerns over security were allayed by the metal detector at the door. The hotel staff greeted us and took us through the check-in procedure which was a sit down affair - all very civilised. We were then shown to our massive room which was beautifully decorated with a massive, and comfortable bed. Jasmine scent wafted around the room and a plate of fresh fruit awaited.

After an amazing night's sleep, we rolled down to breakfast which was also excellent - a really nice selection of fruit, cooked food as well as Asian cuisine.

A session relaxing around the pool followed and as another reviewer comments, this is a calm oasis in an otherwise chaotic and intense city.

A weekend retreat to Jakarta? I loved the place, but it probably has a bit to go before it becomes a popular city break - however, if you do have to visit Jakarta, you could do a lot worse than the Dharmawangsa!

“Just lovely”

The Dharmawangsa

27 Jun 2007

This is a superb hotel made all the more remarkable by its location in a stressful, hectic, exciting (and polluted) city. A real oasis of calm.

The other reviews say it all really. I can also recommend the spa treatments - professionally administered in nice rooms.

What stands out most in all that beautiful decoration (traditional Java with lots of local wood carving etc) was the service, which was the best I have experienced.

I wasn't even that concerned when my local trip (to the Thousand Islands) could not be booked - I just relaxed in the hotel. Normally I would find this dull, but there it was a real treat.

The only little niggle I can think of was the food which was a bit dull. Also, my room overlooked the garden where parties were held which was a bit noisy - but nothing serious.

An incredibly serene and luxurious place to stay. I say "place to stay" rather than "hotel" because the Dharmawangsa truly didn't feel like a hotel when I spent 3 nights there last week - more like a very grand home with simply superb staff and very personalized service. The only tiny thing that went wrong was that my coffee was forgotten one morning, but absolutely everything else was perfect. It was easily the best place I've stayed in - lovelier accomodation and warmer service than the one Aman I've been at and at a fraction of the cost! I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Jakarta.
