The stay was good, comfortable and memorable. The hotel has 7 different wings with 300+ suites. The hotel has nice sweeming pools, gift shops, bars, restaurents and bank ATM.

Food variety and muffins counter are the most crowded places in the hotel. Muffins and cakes are delicious and mouth watering. I stayed there for a week with few business and personal friends.

Enjoyed my stay.

The hotel breathes of culture and tradition. The rooms were old but clean. Needs to do some changes especially the lightings. Should be brighter. Especially for business people travelling that requires to do work in the evening. There were a few entrances and we were confuse as the taxi from airport dropped us at one entrance. We had to walk with our luggages a long distance to another entrance where the lobby and check in counters were located. Beautiful gardens and so much space!! Good location and fantastic breakfast spread.

The room needs renovation. Bed and the pillow was good, but the carpet and the chair looked need renovation.
The service was average. What excellent is the breakfast service at the cafe, the coffee was the most delicious coffee I`ve ever had in a hotel service, it was a bold javanese coffee. The quality of food the had in the breakfast service was excellent, the have rare japanese -Nato-, and freshly-homemade hamburger. Overall, it worth the price for Sultan.

If what i have experieced is "Hospitality At It's Royal Best", then it's almost an insult to the royalty.

The hotel - has 3 blocks of rooms and 1 block of residence. The older lobby was beautiful with lots of character and adjacent to the pool. However, check in was consolidated at the Lagoon Tower where I was housed - Grand Deluxe room. This Lagoon Tower block is totally uncharacteristic, no charm just like any modern 4 star building.

The Room - there are 15 floors and only 4 floors are non smoking. At check in I was given a smoking room and was told they ran out of non smoking room. On the odd occasion, I would accept a smoking room but this one was really unbearable. Finally a small complaint was made and was given a non smoking room.

Both the bathroom in the smoking and non smoking room were really grubby. The grouting in the shower cubicle and areas of the bathtub are filled with mildew in shades of light brown to black. I thought the Nikko Executive room's bathroom was bad, this is worse.

The towels were musty - the smell you get when clothes were dried in damp condition. The bathroom floor towel was not supplied after my first night.

At check in was told cables were available for internet connection. But only to find none and has to use WIFI for connection. Then upon asking, only complimentary WIFI cards were given. Then the WIFI access was so slow that it took hours to download a few emails.

Then request for late check out, only 1 hour was according.

The coffee house breakfast. The selection is really nothing to shout about - it was just ok. For 3 consecutive morning, coffee or tea was not offered automatically. They show you the table and the end. No asking of coffee or tea. 2nd morning, even after I had finised my breakfast, the coffee was also not offered.

An during weekdays at the lobby lounge, Hi-tea is offered from 4pm to 8pm. If you wish to only have drinks, it's not possible.

It's a pretty dissapointing hotel.

  • Liked — The architecture in the old lobby
  • Disliked — The mildew in the bathroom, the internet connection

The Sultan is the former Hilton Hotel in Jakarta, but in my opinion, and at least on the Executive floor of the Lagoon Tower, the standards of service are much better than they would have been at the Hilton. And it's not so much the great B/F buffet with personal service, or the Happy Hour with lots of delicious refreshments but it's the wonderful staff on the Executive floor that really make the difference.

After a few days you start feeling like family, and when we went out of town for a few days we were greeted like long lost and dear family members when we came back. Meeting facilities are also great, with coffee served, and free ironing is also included. At corporate rates this place is a bargain for the level and warmth of service on offer.

  • Liked — the friendly and helpful staff on the Executive Floor
