Hotel Ibis Tamarin is a nice hotel with friendly, very helpful staff. They are quiet, yet attentive. The Front Desk staff speak English well. The hotel location was perfect! And in a safe neighborhood. We were warned about pick-pockets, but never had a problem.
Our room was spacious, the bed soft, and the a/c was strong. Everything was gleaming and shiny clean. The television has a couple English channels. The bathroom was very large. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The hotel serves a great breakfast! Buffet tables of Indonesia dishes and American-style breakfasts. Spicy and sweet chicken, beef, fish in thick sauces, soups, over rice or noodles. Several rice and noodle dishes served along with eggs, toast w/jam, juices, fruit, coffee and tea.
Jakarta streets are congested with cars, bikes, buses. Car exhaust is inhaled with equal parts of air. And it takes some time to get from place to place. The Front Desk staff told us which taxis to take, what the price range should be, and which taxis to avoid. One couple told us about a ride where they paid a high fee, argued with the driver, and were dropped in a questionable neighborhood.
Jakarta has beautiful, large, unbelievable mosques. Along the streets are (music and puppet) performers and youngsters yell "Hello!" There is a lot of shopping nearby and delicious, different cuisine. And the prices can't be beat. Hotel Ibis Tamarin is a very nice hotel!
