The Grand Hyatt is located in downtown Jakarta with well appointed rooms. I find it more suitable for business rather than leisure travellers, though accompanying spouses should be happy with the range of shops in the adjoining upmarket mall, which also housess a supermarket, affordably priced restaurants and a couple of small-scale day spas offering javanese massages (at a fraction of the prices listed on the Hyatt's spa services menu). I was pleased with the spacious room, king sized bed and smiling room attendants who kept my room in pristine condition. The bathroom too was spacious to the point of decadence - with a big vanity table, walk-in wardrobe, separate water closet and shower stall, though there was a distracting number of mirrors (see photo).

Guests who are used to the brisk front desk service at other Hyatt Hotels in Bangkok and Singapore may have to moderate their expectations a little when checking in and out, with the front desk staff taking their time to rummage through guest folders. I did not need to use the business centre but found the room service operating at a similarly relaxed pace. I had to wait a good three quarters of an hour before a simple order of a club sandwich and juice arrived in my room. However, conceirge service was excellent - very helpful and quick in arranging taxis in the mornings and to the airport. Overall, a fine hotel worthy of a repeat visit.

My first choice in the capital. Rooms are exceptional and sophisticated. Service is exemplary and hotels in Australia should take a closer look at the way they are run because for a third of the price, in Jakarta you are staying in the lap of luxury with all the fine value added service, which you will never get n Sydney or Melbourne. Extravagant lobby does it for me. Clearly the hub for all well off local business men who like to sit down in the bar area and have a whiskey while they broker deals. Also greatly recommended for families too!

I've just returned from a two night stay at this hotel, for business and I really liked it!

My room was a great size, with a fab bathroom (typical Hyatt style) big tub, seperate shower, good selection of toiletries. There was a nice walk in closet, good bed, desk and chair (lounge style).

The pool area is amazing! big pool and very spacious with plenty of loungers and chairs. The gardens are beautiful and there's a 800m running track around the grounds.

The health club is just as any other Hyatt I've stayed in (Singapore & Auckland only) great! Plenty of machines, towels and water available everywhere, the changings room are spacious and the showers very powerful. There's also a steam and sauna with a great plung pool (both hot and cold) between the two, so you can have a quick dip before entering again!

I didn't get much time to explore the surrounding area, I only managed the attached shopping centre, which is where I went for dinner and breakfast - there's lots and lots of options here (both Asian and western), so I wouldn't have breakfast in the hotel, although on my first night I order room service for dinner and it was pretty good, big portios, but nothing special.

One of the things I did notice and I saw mentioned in another review here, is the smell of unrine in the bathroom. I noticed this in other Asain hotels and have always put it down to poor drainage/sewer systems, as my room here (and in other hotels where I've encountered this) was spotless and cleaned throughly.

Jakarta is a very busy city, so I would suggest you give yourself plenty of time to get places. One last tip is to make sure you get a proper taxi from the airport. As with many airports there are lots of touts hanging around the arrivals area, these are not reputable taxi firms.

Please make sure to find one of the proper firms (I used Bluebird, clearly maked blue cars) outside the building. It may (or may not!) cost more but it's worth it to arrive at your destination safely.

LOVED IT! Awesome sized rooms. GREAT service. Food good- all perfect. Even though there was massive flooding in Jakarta the hotel did a great job of managing communications regarding what was going on.

Having stayed at Hyatt Hotels in many other cities around the world, I was very disappointed with this one. The amenities are all there, but the service ts extremely slow and the staff cold and unfriendly. The restaurants offer almost nothing for vegetarians. The breakfast is nothing out of the ordinary.

When I first arrived in my room, I found the bathroom had not been cleaned properly and there was a urine smell in the shower cubicle. Although I called Housekeeping to clean it up and complained to the Front Desk, noone attended to my request for well over a half hour. In the end, I spoke to the manager. She came over to my room, brought Housekeeping with her and asked them to clean it up. They didn't succeed in removing the smell, but at least they tried.

This experience on top of the cold, unfriendly service I've had on both this visit and a previous visit mean that I will not be staying at the Grand Hyatt in Jakarta again.
