I have stayed over 200 nights at the Kristal in the last 10 years and have watched it grow from a 1 star to a 4 star and unfortunately have recently watched it fall into disrepair. Despite my many repeat stays, I have never been recognized nor personally greeted by the front desk staff, while the bell staff know me and my family all by name. The menu hasn't changed in 7 years and "bali belly" is not uncommon if one isn't careful. I've personally stopped staying at the Kristal in Jakarta because when I presented concerns about room cleanliness, a/c not working, internet not working, etc. to the general manager, he was unable to resolve this issues. The hotel is ideally located and it's many recent security improvements make it somewhat of an oasis in an insecure city however one can find equal security with better rooms and service at several other Jakarta hotels these days.
