Hotel Kristal was our home in Jakarta for almost a month and we were very pleased with the service, accomodations, and location of the hotel. It also has very good security, amongst the best in mid-range priced apartment-hotel in Jakarta. It's close to a grocery store and we were able to take advantage of the kitchenette. The rooms are cleaned daily and the kitchen restocked with basic items. There were always Silverbird taxis nearby so it was very easy to get everywhere in Jakarta safely. We highly recommend this hotel.

The room needs to refurbish, pest control maybe required, the equipment need to be changed and most important the Air-conditioner unit need repair as it make extremely loud noises. The front-office staff need to put more smile in their faces and the lift is pathetically small. The only plus point is the distant between the hotel and my office. Overall it is below my expectation of a 4 star hotel.

I have stayed over 200 nights at the Kristal in the last 10 years and have watched it grow from a 1 star to a 4 star and unfortunately have recently watched it fall into disrepair. Despite my many repeat stays, I have never been recognized nor personally greeted by the front desk staff, while the bell staff know me and my family all by name. The menu hasn't changed in 7 years and "bali belly" is not uncommon if one isn't careful. I've personally stopped staying at the Kristal in Jakarta because when I presented concerns about room cleanliness, a/c not working, internet not working, etc. to the general manager, he was unable to resolve this issues. The hotel is ideally located and it's many recent security improvements make it somewhat of an oasis in an insecure city however one can find equal security with better rooms and service at several other Jakarta hotels these days.

I have stayed at the Kristal several times as it is near where I work. It is near the American School and (once you leave the zoo on the street) pretty tranquil. The Satu Lagi is a decent bar where a reasonable number of European, American and Australians hang out --- so you can generally be understood in English anywhere in the hotel. The restaraunt offers varying buffets with good quality food at decent prices. The rooms are large with fair TV choices and high speed internet access (at a small additional cost). Excellent pool, family friendly. Workou and conference facilities good. Health club offers inexpensive massages -- happy endings likely. PADI course available at the pool and can be scheduled to your convenience. The best part of the hotel is that once you are there it just doesn't feel like you are in the mad house anymore.
