We have just got back from spending eight nights Coral Bay Resort, El Nido. Both myself and my girlfriend had an amazing time in El Nido and Coral Bay played a major role in facilitating our enjoyment.
We were lucky enough to stay in the VIP room, which has a private balcony which is absolutely magnificant. It provides a breathtaking view of the sunset which was always the highlight of the day.
Coral Bay is also located on Corong Corong, which is much nicer than el nido town and a short walk from one of the nicest beaches we found. The sea is also cleaner in Corong Corong than in el nido, altough we still found it a little dirty on occasions.
The owners and staff at the resort are great fun, always there to help or chat over a beer in the evenings. Their sociability provides the focal point through which guests interact - we chatted to alot of other guests thanks to the beers provided by the owners, and went out for dinnners and did tours with other guests. There is no food at Coral Bay other than the breakfast, but Greenviews, which is a couple of minutes walk along the beach, serves excellent food. Do not eat at the place directly next door ( i have forgotton the name) as the food is terrible!
The guide who does tours rom Coral Bay, whose name is Saldy, is also brilliant. He speaks really good English and always knew the answer to our questions about the history of various sites as well as life in el nido. His tours are also much more relaxed than the ones in town, he will move at your pace rather than to a regimented timescale, which is what we found with one of the tours we did with the Art Cafe. He also shifts the itenary on his tours so as to avoid the crowds - on several occasions we were the only ones at the sites he took us too, which was bliss!
There are only minor downsides to Coral Bay. Things like the need to request things like toilet roll or room servicing, which is unusual for a resort. It would be good to get the bins in the room cleaned daily as its not possible to flush toilet paper - so you have to use the bin provided. However, when we asked for anything from the owners or the staff, the always obliged.
The biggest downside we had was with the travel company that Coral Bay use to book guests' journeys from el nido to puerto - i think they are called Fort Wally Travel. They are supposed to pick you up from the resort, but on the day we left they forgot to pick us up on for our booked journey, and only after coral bay owners rang did they come and collect us for the 9am departure. The journey was then terrible, with the slowest driver in the world ensuring the drive was twice as long as it should have been! Luckily we didn't have a flight to catch! My advice would be to make your own way to the van terminal at el nido on a tricycle rather than rely on them picking you up (and avoid using Fort Wally if you can...).
But overall, Coral Bay Resort is a superb and highly recommended place to stay.
if you can go for the VIP room for he views, but general standard of accomodation was excellent!
