My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Alona Swiss Resort. The room, porch, and grounds were great. Beer in the fridge at a very reasonable price is always appreciated. Wireless and TV were fine. We seriously considered staying longer but kept with our plan to go to Siquijor (which turned out to be the right decision as far as seeing the most we could in the time we had). A major benefit of staying at the ASR was that it is quiet and located very near to Charts which had a great breakfast (excellent pancakes, eggs, coffee, service, and where I took in a massage) and some cool art. The pool was great. The hot tub was clean but the same temperature as the pool (which I gather might be the norm in the area for the cost but I did miss the "hot" in hot tub). Everybody who worked there was very friendly (from the security guard, to reception, to maids, to the owner--who I cornered before leaving to express my graditude and appreciation for a great stay). If I visited again and had a week+ I might split my time between a beach front property, the ASR, and Charts. I'd be totally happy just staying at the ASR though. Where the ASR excels is that it is actually quiet (virtually no tricycle noise and just a bit of livestock chatter). I enjoyed the walk to and from the beach to the ASR. The entrance/dirt road/alley that you come into the ASR on was no problem except after a downpour when it was temporarily submerged. Really, I got a kick out of checking out a big pig on the stroll in and there are some nice banana trees along the way too. I think there is housing for the service employees along the entrance road and everyone there respectfully ignored me. One thing I wish every motel would provide is a drying rack (which ASR did not provide) but our room nevertheless had a good supply of hangers and plenty of railings and chairs on the patio upon which I tried to dry my swimsuit. For me the ASR cleanness, comfort, and quiet (beauty too) were a perfect contrast to Alona Beach which offered great food, a great beach, and plenty of activity. If only there were waves within a couple of miles I might never have come back to reality.
