“Excellent - As always at ShangriLa”

Shangri-La Hotel

25 Feb 2008

Excelent - As always.

Great Hotel. Excellent Rooms. Excellent Food. Excellent Staff.

Large clean modern efficicent room and bathroom - even the lower cost "standard" rooms are excellent (its just that you dont get a view over the courtyards, thats the main difference)

Supreme Service. Shangri La staff all seem to have somehow mastered the art of being efficient and courteous without being overbearing or false. Thats the biggest difference I always notice in a Shangri La property

Location just off Orchard Road is great - plenty of bars and restuarants nearby (and an almost-24hrs Borders bookshop and plenty of small shopping malls)

Breakfast and evening buffet is spectacular - indescribable - never seen so many different varities of food, all excellently oreaored and rpesented, in the same place at the same time. (I am sure if they werent an endangered species they would have white-tiger-burger and poached-elephant on the menu as well - every other possible food type seems to be there)

I usually stay in budget-ish hotels, but if there is a ShangriLa in the city I am visitng I will usually try to use up the goodwill and money saved on budget hotels to splash out on a 4/5 star ShangriLa. They are expensive, but unlike most " expensive" hotels, they always deliver excellent value for the money

Excellent.
Could not recommend more highly.

“Shangri-la at a price!”

Shangri-La Hotel

I have long been a fan of Shangri-la hotels, and by far the Singapore Shangri-la is the flag ship hotel for the chain. I normally stay in the Valley Wing, which as previous reviews have stated is amazing for service and quality.

For my work I normally book up to six months in advance, so as per my normal arrangements I booked the Shangri-la.

For a hotel of its quality and reputation, I was surprised to learn that for the upcoming F1 race, the normal room rate of 700Singapore dollars was now 2000Singapore dollars PER NIGHT. Yes a 280+% increase.

While I understand that all hotels add a percentage for any new or major event, I would have to question this hotels ethics on this on…

We stayed for 3 nights in the Valley Wing. What a fabulous part of a great hotel. It has its own lobby, free champagne bar and absolutely fantastic service - an amazing USP.

The impressive lobby with the chic and elegant relaxing areas have superb and friendly staff. The breakfast is served in the sumptuous Summit Room. The comfortable seating areas are serviced all day with snacks, nibbles and canpes with free flowing champagne or what ever else you want.

The room was enormous with a carpet thick enough to sleep on. Big bathroom with nice toiletries and extras. Lovely turn down service with scrummy chocolates each night. A truely wonderful stay.

“Super Hotel Shangri la Singapore”

Shangri-La Hotel

My husband and I are presently on an extended trip to Australia and Malaysia. We started our trip with a three night stay in Singapore at the Shangri La hotel and what a hotel. We arrived at 7.30am after a long over night flight with the superb Singapore Airlines to find our room ready. We had a swift check in and were able to freshen up and have breakfast. Throughout our stay we enjoyed excellent service with one blot on the copy book. We decided to have a meal in the Blu restaurant which is extreemly overpriced, has very slow service and we were nearly overcharged by $200 for a bottle of wine. The restaurant was fairly quiet and every table made some kind of complaint. In comparrison on our last night we ate in the excellent Line restaurant which had a seafood evening and the food and service was second to none. So all in all well done to the Shangri La but avoid the Blu restaurant.
