“It was nice but...”

This is a nice hotel and by far the best choice in Cusco; however, we visited in January and property was so hot (no air conditioning in our room). We had to sleep with the windows open which defeats the purpose of an oxygenated room. We did speak to the front desk several times and eventually received a fan after 2 days. Would we stay here again?....yes, most likely, but if I visit in the summer, I would request a fan immediately.
One benefit of staying here is that we were able to secure tickets on the Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu. If you are able to secure these tickets, you will love the Hiram Bingham train. The train was the highlight of our trip.

My wife and our 2 teenage children stayed here and at the sister property in Machu Picchu, the Sanctuary Lodge. The Cusco property is, as the name implies, an old monastery. The property is of museum quality, its walls exhibit some of its original artwork and the furnishings are exquisitely handcrafted. The rooms are somewhat small by US standards but most are oxygenated which is a great relief at 11,000 feet. The food was OK, but I would rate the food at the Sanctuary Lodge ahead of the Monasterio. But what separates this property from the other leading hotels of the world is the level of personal service from the Guest Relations staff. Whether it was getting a last minute transfer from the Cusco airport to the Ollantaytambo train station, seeing the sites in Urubamba, or just simple baggage handling, everything was done on time and as if they were proud to serve you. I would recommend you speak to either Angela or Edgar. I've stayed in hotels around the world and I would rate this one the best.

The staff was very professional and accommodating. The food was outstanding. The rooms were beautifully decorated in the style of the period.

Beautiful property. Breakfast was outstanding. I would like to have known more about the property but the tour was cancelled during our visit. The staff is very helpful although not as accomodating as other hotels we stayed at in Peru. We did not sleep because there was so much noise from the street below and at check out the only response from the hotel staff was that their triple rooms are noisy???? That did not help soothe our tired spirits. I might consider returning but would make certain the room is in the first section not at the back of the hotel.

We stayed here as part of an upmarket tour. Quite simply, this has to be one of the very best hotels in the world. I've have stayed in many top hotels, including the best that East Asia has to offer, but this is off the chart. The combination of a unique complex of monastery buildings, with fabulous original art and antiques both in the public areas and guest rooms, is like nothing else you will ever experience. The service is impeccable throughout and the oxygenation of the bedrooms is a real help for newly-arriving visitors to one of the world's highest cities. Despite the justificably high rates, the quality makes it worthwhile!
