My wife and I took the Awamaki tour to Patacancha to see traditional Andean weaving processes and products. It was an amazing demonstration- I realized I was watching a piece of Andean culture and history that has existed the same way for at least 500 years.
I also really appreciated how the tour guides were more concerned with respecting the weavers than placating the tourists. We asked permission to see a Quechua house and our guide stated that if the host was not comfortable, we weren´t going (we were graciously received by the weaver). The weavings were the finest works I saw in my three months in Peru. This tour is responsible, sustainable tourism in action!
