I've been at Ermitage Hotel in Montevideo, on octuber/2009, follow indication of TripAdvisor, and I didn't regret at all. The hotel location is awesome, on the fancy and security neighborhood of Pocitos, in front of beach, and the "Ramblas", ideal for jogging at the evening, there is a bus stop in front of hotel, you can get bus from all Montevideo streets and also shoppings mall. The room is very good, comfortable beds, cable TV. The bathroom is large and clean with strong water showers. Although I read complains about staff on TripAdvisor, I don't have any claim, the receptionists are very nice. The only thing I have to complain is the lack of fruits on breakfast, I said this because I've stayed in cheapers hotels that offers fruits in theirs breakfast, because of this I rated "service" with Average. I think they have to improve it. Great hotel, I gonna stay in it again, for sure.

I stayed at Hotel Ermitage from May, 1st to May, 5. The weather was very nice and my room had a view to the Rio de la Plata (River Plate) and a small square named Plaza Gomensoro. The size of the room (705) is just right for a couple, including the bathroom. There is an electronic safe and a fridge inside the room, which were very useful. The rooms are cleaned every day and all towels are replaced. The staff at the reception is very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast lacks fresh fruits like papaya and watermelon, although they have apples and bananas. Notwithstanding, there is plenty of breads and pastries.
My wife and me appreciated very much staying at this hotel.

We really liked this hotel. Although it is not a five-star hotel, we give it five stars because of its excellent location, outstanding staff, great lobby, and more. Our room was spacious, with a big desk, good bed, excellent lighting, and beautiful view of the beach. The bathroom was the best of all, with lots of counter space, very unusual for most hotel rooms, and a full size tub. There were even plugs for the tub and sink. The lobby is large, with lots of easy chairs and couches. Staff couldn't have been more helpful or responsive, always smiling, always ready with a map and directions. The breakfast room is rather stark, large and filled with lots of tables, but the breakfast was quite good, with fresh squeezed orange juice, fruit, and the usual array of cold cuts, breads, and cereals. We enjoyed the beachside location, walking on the malecon in the evenings, and through the leafy neighborhood in the mornings. It's an inexpensive taxi ride to the other parts of town one might want to visit. Overall we loved this place and have given it our highest rating.

The hotel is in one of the best areas of Montevideo: Pocitos. It is very nice to walk around the neighborhood and the Rambla (the avenue along the River Plate).

PROS - location (far from downtown, but in a nice neighborhood and taxis are cheap); very clean; room is dated but very well maintained (it has modern air-con and renewed bathroom); good pc's for internet access.

CONS - breakfast could be more tasty and have more options.

Considering the price (about 65 US dollars for a double room), this hotel is a reasonable option.

Don't expect much, but I garantee you will feel safe and comfortable.

Pros: Great location a block from the beach - my 7th floor room had a terrific view of the ocean (beach side rooms cost a little more - $70US). For the price I had two rooms, a bathroom and a connecting corridor to myself - not sure if that is usual, I suspect not, it seemed like a family setup. Safe, affluent neighbourhood. Clean. Free internet access - there are two computers set up in the foyer for guests to use. Restaurants scattered about the neighbourhood. I didn't use the hotel restaurant.

Cons: Staff were polite and helpful but otherwise disinterested. Several kilometres from the old city, but its a pleasant walk if you have the time or taxis are cheap enough.
