This is an elegant resort on the major Fiji Island, roughly 90 minutes drive from Nadir international airport. The rooms are spacy and elegant. There are rooms along the pool, but they are very noisy due to the children playing. Hill side rooms with sea view are also available. We chose a room with lagoon view which is less noisy than those directly exposed to the beach activity. That was perfect.
The resorts have three restaurants: a cafeteria type; a traditional restaurant and a "fine dining" restaurant. The food quality is OK, but not superb in any way. Shops are available on the compound so there is no need to leave the resort. There is a shuttle bus every 30 minutes to the near by (just 5 minutes drive) excellent 18 hole golf course (can be recommended). The prices at the hotel compound are "international". But those who travel on tight budgets can eat and drink outside the hotel in the near by village. Generally speaking, we can recommend the resort for some days off. The guest relation service was very helpful. And one of the ladies there even bought a specific type of envelope in the local market for us since those were not available in the resort (Her suggestion!).
However, there are minuses as well:
1) The tip system is strange. Tip is "not encouraged", but accepted. If so, the administration recommends to add tip to the bill. However, the staff seems to expect tip. If we did not add any tip to a bill, e.g. after ordering coctails, the staff simply added 1 dollar on their own hand! Another example: We had a beautiful dining experience at the "fine dining restaurant" and added 10 % tip. But the next time we visited the "fine dining restaurant", the service was terrible. After an initial heartly welcome, nobody cared any more. When we had finished our meal, however, the servant showed up again and indicated with his digit finger where we were supposed to add tip! (We did not). In contrast, the service at the restaurant at the golf course was first class - every day.
2) When we arrived the TV set did not function. After an hour a mechanic showed up and fixed it. Also the weight was not functioning. It was never fixed.
3) Worse: we were not able to connect to internet. Those with computers bought in Asia and Australia (US I do not know) were, however. After many mechanics and technicians had tried to solve the problem, they concluded that our computer was dysfunctional. However, they also had internet at the golf course. Initially we experienced the same problem there. But they had a young lady explaining that the internet set up had to be modified for our "Scandinavian" computer set up. In a couple of minutes, she was able to establish internet connection after the whole technical staff at the resort had given up. In conclusion: if you have problems with your internet connection and the resort staff blaims your computer, contact the IT person at the golf course. She will fix it for you.
4) Fiji time, Fiji time! The staff can tell you, "we will be there in X minutes". Double it or tripple it. They are never on time any way. E.g. we reserved a wake-up call and pick-up time from our room when we was to leave. The wake-up call came 30 minutes late and the pick-up was 15 minutes late despite several phone calls. The lessons is clear: always calculate extra time. Remember: Fiji time!
