Stayed for one week at the end of February and was definitely satisfied with our choice to stay in the city. Initially we were booked at the Westin Playa Bonita but opted to change our accommodation last minute and are glad we did. Making Panama City our base point was a better decision than experiencing Panama at an all inclusive and Le Meridien was an excellent choice.
The location of the hotel was perfect. It is walking distance to wonderful restaurants and nightlife. There is a good path and park across from the hotel where you can walk along side the marina. We stayed in an ocean view room and it was very interesting to watch the tide come in, the marina, boats, the three islands at Amador Causeway and the hustle and bustle of the city.
Definitely agree to hail a taxi yourself than using the hotel's transportation service. Hotel's transportation was asking $20 for transportation to Panama Viejo when we were able to get a taxi for $8.
The staff that greets you at the front entrance were exceptional, especially Mario. He was eager to help us with anything we needed whether it be advice on where to eat and where to go and the sights not to miss. The front desk personnel were also very pleasant to deal with and very accommodating.
Our package came with breakfast and we enjoyed it each day at Latitudes restaurant which served a buffet of pastries, fruit, cold cuts, cheese, cereal, toast, juice, eggs and bacon. It also came with an omelet with whatever you wanted in it. The servers at the hotel restaurant were great too and remembered us each morning and helped us with any questions we had about the city and towns to travel to. We did order waffles and pancakes one day as well and it was good.
We used the pool everyday and enjoyed reading a book and relaxing on the lounge chairs. Despite it being a city hotel and the pool on the 6th floor with tall buildings as your surroundings, it was peaceful as we were the only ones that were ever there during the week. We also used the fitness centre which had great equipment (treadmills, elliptical, weights, etc.).
It was also very convenient that the Business Centre had complementary internet for us to book our tours and look at reviews for restaurants.
The room was clean, comfortable and provided lots of space for storage of our belongings.
Great stay as a holiday despite being termed as a business hotel, we made the most of it and enjoyed the people and services.
Definitely select an ocean view room.
