I stayed at this hotel after a two-week stay in the center of Antigua. I had a very clean, nice and big room and good breakfast. I was a bit sick from a plane ride from Tikal, and the staff was very nice and accommodating. El Palacio was great place to just rest and wind down during the trip. The decor is charming (paintings by local artists, nice furniture, etc.), and a nice little waiting area in the reception. Too bad I had a short stay, but would gladly go back. There are big, fancy hotels in Antigua, but the tourist traffic is a bit much, that El Palacio is good respite from that.

After a long flight from London and then drive from GC the beautiful facade of Dona Beatriz was a welcome sight. We could hear local music playing faintly in the distance and though it was late the kind hotel staff brought us the 2 beers we asked for straight away to enjoy on the terrace outside our room (communal terrace). The internal part of the hotel is open air so we could look up and see the stars. Though the hotel is small it is very professionally run (thanks for everything Larissa!). The breakfast was included in the rate and it was wonderful - table service every morning. True, they don't really have a pool, it is more of a fountain that creates a nice atmosphere. And the walk in to town may be too much if you have children. Having said all that, the hotel was great value for money and I thought is was a romantic location for a couple so I didn't mind the walk into town. Also, all the tours were fine to pick us up at the hotel so there were no problems there. Once again, the manager Larissa spoke great English and was helpful in organizing activities. Our room was very spacious and had all the comforts of home (TV if you can't live w/o it! hair dryer etc.). If you want something special , off the beaten track that won't break the bank then Hotel Beatriz is a great choice.

i would definitely agree with the other reviews that comment on larissa and rudy's helpfullness and friendliness. they were very pleasant.
the hotel is also in a very safe area and is very quiet. i had no problem letting my 10 and 9 year old daughters walk outside and play in the partk across the drive.
the pool is very very small. if you are planning on swimming laps this is not the place for you. the "deep end" is about 4 feet. my girls were at first confused - "mom, is this the pool or a fountain?"
i do think the walk into town is a bit too long especially if one is traveling with children - it became tuk tuk rides and cab rides for us after one trip to town.
also, while the room was spacious, i did not think it particularly clean. it was acceptable but certainly could have been cleaner.

We booked this B&B-style hotel on-line after learning our first two choices were unavailble because of weekend wedding parties. But, we loved this small hotel on the northeast edge of Antigua. Excellent bi-lingual service from Larissa (la jefa) and Rudy for recommending & booking excursions, easy to moderate walking distance to galleries, shops & restaurants (including the incomparable Casa Santo Domingo), lovely rooftop views, and quiet location. Our room was a jr. suite but plenty large enough, especially considering the cozy couch on the verranda outside the room. And WI-FI internet was available in the room. We would book El Palacio de Doña Beatríz again without hesitation.

We have returned from a long weekend break in Antigua staying at The Hotel Palacio de Dona Beatrix. The hotel was very pleasant, the staff friendly and rooms clean.

It is not the closest to the town square(centre) perhaps a 15' walk, but the hotel is very happy to drive you back and forth. They are also more than happy to arrange tours or side trips. (Lake Atitlan: beautiful - a must for any visitor. Pacaya Volcano: better be fit - it's a long steep climb).

The only negative that I would raise was they charged a slightly higher exchange rate upon checkout than most places (8 vs 7.5Q to the $1). To be fair this was clearly signed on the Front desk and I guess I could have paid in US$ cash.

We would certainly consider staying here if we return to Antigua.
