“Good Value for Money”

Valamar Club Dubrovnik

I am just back from a 9 day stay at Valamar Club with my family. Having stayed at numerous resorts in all diferent price ranges, I feel Valamar Club is a very good value, especially considering this is only a 3 star hotel. My three children enjoyed the large swimming pool and close proximity to a small pebbled beach. Lounge chairs at the pool area were plentiful and the towel service dispensed beach towels of excellent quality. At the beach it is possible to rent kayaks and jet skis.

Our bedrooms were small, but kept impecably clean. Inside the rooms everything worked properly - TV, phone, hair dryers, etc. The showerhead was one of the best I have encountered in quite some time. As to the meals, a healthy selection of grilled meats and fish is offered daily. The pizza was very popular with the children. Unfortunately they seem to have more staff clearing the tables then behind the grill actually making the food. That meant that at peak times you might have to queue for your food, which is never fun. That could stand to be improved upon. Again, one must keep in mind this is not a 5 star all-inclusive, so 5 star cuisine should not be expected... My opinion is that they offer a decent meal considering what we were paying for it. Also, on two occasions we requested picnic lunches and they packed plenty of food for us to eat on the go.

To get to Dubrovnik you have a 5 minute walk uphill to catch a bus (the local #6 or a shuttle bus for tourists). Tickets for either bus can be obtained at the lobby of the hotel and they are very cheap (10 KN for shuttle; 8 KN for the local bus). The ride into town takes less than 15 minutes on the local bus; less than 10 minutes on the shuttle. We felt it was convenient enough to get into the old town, and did so several times. Also, at the hotel lobby it is possible to book day tours of nearby attractions. We took two trips with a tour group called Atlas - one to Montenegro and another to Mostar, Bosnia. We really enjoyed both these tours and thought that they were well worth experiencing.

We had a very pleasant stay at Club Valamar and felt all our needs were met. The staff was always accomodating and addressed all our requests. I suppose the hotel's nightly entertainment and mini club offerings were bellow average, but one thing that more than made up for this was the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere we found there. In addition, we are a family of animal lovers and we truly enjoyed the four cats and one dog that hang around the hotel grounds - all very sweet and gentle. Our children were delighted to have them around, and we were all especially taken with a very small kitten we befriended there. This kitten (who my children called Denis) is all white except for black markings on its face and tail (and a very small spot on the back of a hind leg). It seemed harder for him to compete with the other, bigger cats and the dog for some food scraps and attention from the guests... I know it sounds crazy, but if you stay there and happen to see this lovable cat, feel free to spoil it. And if you can find the time, I would truly appreciate it if you could message me to let me know that you saw Denis :)

“A very memorable family vacation”

We stayed here a week in May 08 and booked a package holiday through a UK operator. We had the all inclusive option and there were three of us travelling, including our 4 year old son.

The hotel was really nice, very clean and the public areas modern and well looked after. The room was a little on the small side (perhaps because we had an extra single bed in for our son) and the bathroom tiny but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway so we managed just fine. There are rooms with balconies available but I don't think they are any bigger than the normal rooms inside at least.

Meals were excellent with great choice of cold and hot foods and not a chip in sight! We were pleased that the choice could be as healthy (or unhealthy) as you'd like, which is something to think about when travelling with children. There were plenty of vegetables and fish available, all very tasty and varied. Drinks available were also very good and we have no complaints about this at all.

The facilities in the hotel are very good and the team of animators do their best to ensure everyone has a good time. When we went there weren't that many families (mainly older couples or groups) but they still held the mini disco, for example, even if one night our son was the only one there! And they did it with their hearts and not just going through the motions. I suspect it is a lot busier in the summer.

The staff in general was great - very helpful, kind, wanting to do their best and not to be faulted. We had no problems at all and in fact were a bit sad when we came to leave as we thought of them all as family.

Getting to Dubrovnik is easy on the local buses, like other reviewers noted and tickets bought at the hotel are cheaper than those bought at the bus. The no. 6 bus starts and finishes near the Hotel President (part of the Valamar chain and a 10 minute walk away) which means that it's easy to get a seat on the way to town. As I mentioned the hotel is part of a chain and we were able to use the facilities in other hotels nearby (like indoor pool) as they are all a very scenic short walk away.

The Lapad peninsula is also only a short (15 min) walk away along a very safe and scenic coastal path and was a lovely thing to do. There is a pebble beach there too or, closer, there is a shingle beach about 5 min away from the hotel. Both are very pretty and a great alternative to the pool. The outside pool is very large but, unfortunately, not heated so very chilly during our stay (about 18 degrees).

In all we had an excellent time at the club Valamar and would certainly recommend it and hope to go back again some day.

Having just spent half term week at this hotel, our party was 2 adults and 4 teenagers, I can report that all in all it was a very enjoyable experience. The rooms although basic where clean and well presented, although we did pay the small premium for sea views and I'm not totatly sure but suspect that some of the lower charged rooms might be in need of a refurb. The outside of the hotel and public areas were bright and we'll decorated and seemed always to be being cleaned. We book th all-inclusive light option which included 3 meals a day and your drinks ( local wines, beer and soft drinks) in the resturant. The food was very good, a choice of cold and hot buffets and two or three meats or fish cooked at a grill, plus fresh pizzas made and cooked also in the resturant. If you are all-inclusive and going out for the day asked for a packed lunch before 6 the day before, it was basic but again plentiful. We didn't really get any use from the pool and sports faclilities but there looked to be a wide offering. We were there in the last week of the season so the hotel was pretty quite, wheter we would have enjoyed it as much at full occupancy in the summer may have been another thing but that's just personal taste. the hotel is about a fifteen minute bus ride from the old town, buy your ticket in the hotel shop for 80 Kuna (80p) or on the bus for 100 Kuna, one way. The bus stop is on the main road just along from the hotel entrance of the road, you need to walk a couple of 100 metres up the hotel service road which is asteep incline but nothing any able bodied person wouldn't cope with. The number 6 bus terminates at the Pile Gate for the old town. We paid 50 Euros for a pre-booked minibus (there was 6 of us) from the airport to the hotel, about 30 mins journey but there were loads of taxis outside the terminal waiting. All in all I would highly recomemend the hotel, especially at the all-inclusive room rate we paid.
One more thing, if anybody does visit the hotel can you message me with any repoert on Millie the dog, Millie, apparantley is a stray that has lived around the hotel for the last 5 or 6 years, my daughter fell in love with Millie and used to smuggle a dogy bag out of the resturant at meal times to feed her. Any news would be appreciated as she was a littel hearbreaker but as the hotel recpionist said when I asked if the dog belonged o the hotel she answered, "the hotel belongs to Millie!"

“Just what I wanted”

A nice place, a friendly staff and great value. I requested a quiet room and it was so far away I only heard birdsong. For €70.00 I got three buffet meals, all one could eat and some of it pretty good, and wine and beer included. Of course the meals lacked relaxation as we all rushed around foraging at different outlets but it was good fun. A vast pool with sun loungers and overloud music but also five minutes further away a little beach with nice water. And five minutes walk up hill to the regular local bus to the walls of the great old city about 15 minutes away. I loved my three days there.

valamar club is a 3 star hotel, but in my mind its better... me n my friends stayed there 9 nights and 10 days. Location of hotel at babin kuk region; excatly reverse side of the old city. Old city or walled is the turistic area of the dubrovnik. There is a bus stop near to the hotel but, you have to climbe very hard hill!! tickets are one way and 8 kuna at hotel 10 kuna if u buy it from bus. if u wanna go to pile(old city) you must take the buses number 6 or 6A. For new port you must take number 5. By taxi it takes around 65kuna to the pile(old city) from hotel and it takes 260kuna for airport. If u wanna vist montenegro and mostar hotel can help you for tour to that areas. Staff of the hotel is very good and helpfull. We stayed as a all inclusive but its not means that you can eat when ever you want! that means that you can only eat during break fast(from 6 up to 9), lunch(from 12 up to 14) and dinner(from 19 up to 21).. Without that times you must pay. Hotel has tennis, handball, beach volley and ping pong facilities. If u wanna swim in sea just next to the hotel there is a beach its not sandy but in croatia they have not sandy beaches. If you want sandy beach you must go to lopud island. That beach has special infrastructure for disable peoples but hotel has no. Rooms are wide and fully air condittoned. Meals are very tasty but they are serving same things everyday it started to be boring after 3 days. In Dubrovnik life is very cheap, 1 euro= 7.11kuna... trip to mostar 380kuna, returned ticket for lokrum island 35kuna, trip to ealfity islands around 200 kuna( sipan and kolacep has same but lopud has very nice sandy beach you can take boat taransfer from new port its cost 120 kuna for returned ticket.
