“A god change of scenery”

Dubrovnik Palace Hotel

Whilst this is not a 5 star hotel in the Dubai sense of luxury, it was good value and we had a really good stay.

We were a little disappointed as we arrived because we realised that we were some way from the old town which is the main tourist attraction. There were no shops near the hotel and we felt a bit out of it. However, these fears were quickly dispelled as it meant that we probably ended up seeing more of the area.

Transport to town is very easy whether by free shuttle (hourly) or by bus. It is also very easy to get back from town by bus with them running every 20 mins. Buy your bus tickets from hotel reception as they are cheaper than from bus.

Don't restrict yourself to the old town. Walk down the road leading to the hotel (only one way you can go) and instead of heading into town, go into Lapad area. It is all very pleasant to walk around.

If you are into scuba diving, try the Blue Planet Diving Centre at the hotel. Whether it is for a beginners dive in shallow water or if you are experienced, there are some good caves and a wreck within minutes of the hotel. I have dived all over the world and whilst I have been to better dive sites, I have rarely been to such a well run dive outfit. The equipment was excellent and Anto Vukovic who runs it, is a lovely bloke. He is very safety conscious but without taking away any of the fun. I really enjoyed my dives and would recommend using them to anybody.

Overall Summary
=============
Positives:

Indoor pool, gym and spa - excellent. Fantastic pool and great gym facilities. Spa is not too highly priced compared to equivalent hotels and my wife really enjoyed treatments.

Outdoor pool - really nice and very relaxing.

Staff - Generally excellent.

Views - superb.

Dubrovnik - This is a 'must do' place. It is a stunning city.

Trips - We found Mostar trip to be well worth doing and very interesting although a long day. Bosnia is far cheaper than Croatia.

Negatives:
=========

Standard room is not really 5 star. It is not massive and missed touches like tea/coffee. Very clean though and good balcony with great views.

Drinks prices - Mini-bar and general bar prices were on high side. They did not mind us putting our own drinks in mini-bar in room.

Shuttle bus - Goes on hour but be careful at 7pm and 8pm as can fill up 10 mins early and then goes leaving you to wait for a bus.

Breakfast buffet - It is fairly decent but the egg chef was comical. He was in charge of fried eggs and omelettes for 6 out of our 7 days and he was clueless. It became really funny as we could not believe that after serving about 200 people each day, he could not work out how to fry an egg properly !!

“great view from pool”

We stayed here for a week. The hotel is really big, larger than we'd normally go for, but we'd struggled to find a small boutique hotel with a pool. The pool area is lovely and great views out to sea. Our room was good, with a huge balcony, but the hotel definitely still feels more like a large resort than a luxury resort. You have to get a bus into the old town but it stops right outside the front and they're v regular. Nothing can prepare you for first seeing the old town, it is spectacular. We went in June and it was busy, apparently it gets even busier later in the summer. You can spend hours wondering around, it is so pretty. I'm not sure I'd go back to the Dubrovnik Palace, we had a drink at the sister hotel the Bellevue and it seemed really nice, smaller and more like a boutique hotel.

“Great position by the sea”

Dubrovnik Palace Hotel

We stayed 4 nights in early December out of season and we think possibly only two other rooms were occupied so it was Ghost Town..........except for one night, when a noisy wedding party took place until 4am. Ensure your room/suite isn't one or two floors below the function room!

Staff were delightful, breakfast was excellent, but we were disappointed by the restaurant food which was overpriced.

Views from all the rooms are fabulous with great sunsets over the sea and islands. Decor was dull beige minimalist, but our suite (with shower room and bathroom) was very clean and newly furnished. Persistent drain smells in the shower room troubled us so we stopped using it. Reception staff told us they were caused by the wind! Comfortable beds.

The pool/spa was superb and we spent most of our time there, relaxing, when the weather wasn't too good and the lounge areas were deserted.

The public bus service into the city is frequent and excellent: only 15 minutes. Loved the city. Don't miss the wall walk.

Overall, an enjoyable stay and we might stay again, but in warmer weather to make use of the other hotel facilities such as the outdoor pools. The locals are charming and most speak English.

“Lovely Hotel”

The hotel was lovely, everything you would expect from a five star, The breakfast was fine, with a great choice. We didnt stay half board, but we ate twice in the hotel in a cosy resturant on the bottam floor which was fine. We stayed for a week, but there wasnt a lot to do around Dubrovnik, and definitly was ready to go.
I would defintly come again for the hotel,
But not for the area.

“Lovely location, staff, spa - not good for foodies”

We stayed here with a 3 month old baby and were very happy with the facilities etc. big disappointment was the food. Breakfast was fine but all the restaurants were seriously over-priced and food wasn't great.
Room service food was very poor also. Didn't seem to be any non-smoking sections in bar or restaurants.
The spa was excellent - treatments really good and average cost.
