I stayed at the Karachi Sheraton in November 2008. I was in Karachi for a conference, and my hosts received me and drove me to the hotel. Even though we reached past midnight, my check in was smooth and quick. The reception is unusual - guests are offered the courtesy of sitting down while completing the formalities.
The room was well appointed and very comfortable, indeed. Unfortunately, I did not get to spend much time there, as I was kept busy from morning to late evening, but it lacked nothing in terms of comforts. The table and chair provided were excellent; I had a significant amount of work to do each night, and working was comfortable.
Security -- what can I say? It is essential in our part of the world, and the Sheraton takes it seriously. My heart goes out to the security people. They have a tedious job, the guests are not always nice to them, and if there is an attack, they'll be the first to be hit. The JW Marriot Hotel bombing had happened just a few weeks ago, so things were tense. I was one of two Indians staying at the Sheraton, and there were three doctors from Sweden. Many of the American and European participants were staying at small clubs and guest houses. It was sad to see such a marvelous hotel being avoided for safety concerns.
I never got to sample the food at the restaurants. All my meals were either at the conference, or at banquets in the evening. The staff were invariably polite and helpful, and I had a great time at this hotel.
