I was a student at Michigan and always looked to the Bell Tower hotel as a fancy place. I finally got a chance to stay there and I was pretty disappointed. I had expected a boutique hotel and instead found my room blase and boring. I found I wanted to get out on campus more than enjoy the comforts of my room. The location is fantastic - you're across the street from the Bell Tower and Hill Auditorium and the Michigan League. You're down the street from the Union - but if you brought a car, you'll pay for parking. If you're looking for convenience with the location - stay here. If you're looking for a fun and different hotel experience - the Bell Tower is not for you.

Bell Tower has a great location, steps from campus. The room and bathroom were clean and the staff was pleasant. The hotel is relatively old and the decor reflects that. The mattress was stiff and uncomfortable. I understand that accomodations in Ann Arbor are only average and for that reason, I might stay at the Bell Tower in the future.

If you want a place where the employees try to make you feel welcome, stay here. The bathroom had a shower only and was outdated but beyond that, it was a lovely hotel! The service definitely compensated for the rooms.
The Bell Tower has excellent staff and service and has the best location right in the midst of campus. BUT... it needs updating -- and badly. The rooms have probably not been touched since the early 80s and it shows. The rooms are tiny, the bathrooms even tinier and the beds must be twenty years old. They should start with replacing the threadbare comforters from the local Travelodge with down comforters. Feather pillowtops could solve a lot a problems with the rock-hard mattresses that have collected thirty years or more of dust. That said, the hotels in Ann Arbor as a whole are dreadful, so there aren't any better alternatives. The service at the Bell Tower is always gracious and prompt and the Earle restaurant on the premises is fabulous. Did I mention the location? -- by far the best thing going for the Bell Tower is the fact that you can walk right onto campus from their doorstep and enjoy the oldtown area.
